Daily Inspiration: Meet Akia Gory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akia Gory.

Hi Akia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So my name is Akia, I’m from New York and yes, I was also lived in the city. My mother raised me and my sister in a small town called Beacon, New York. After graduating high school I went to John Jay Criminal Justice College in Manhattan and then moved to Centerville Virginia to pursue my career as a law-enforcement officer. Through high school, college, and my career in Virginia, I was with my boyfriend, which is now my fiancé, Which is now my husband ! I started content creation in 2022. I stopped to focus on my career as a law-enforcement officer. I love making content whether it’s for brands or just showing how I take care of my skin. I furthered my education while going through college and being a content creator. My husband wanted me to come to North Carolina, I moved from Virginia to North Carolina to be with him. While moving, I applied to an agency in North Carolina. (I don’t want to disclose due to privacy issues.) and continued my law-enforcement career while also doing content creation part-time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a rocky somewhat smooth journey from where I started to where I’m at now. But I can honestly say my testimony is, I’m glad I went through majority of the things I went through because they were lessons learned.

My husband and I have had hardships financial trouble, but we have worked through those things due to sacrifice and discipline. I suffered from discrimination in Virginia and overcome that by speaking out and holding my department accountable.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a law-enforcement officer by night and content creator by day! I have been a police officer now for 5 years. And I have been doing content since 2022.

I’m most proud of pushing on and pursuing my career as a law enforcement officer. There was a lot of people even family that has told me this isn’t a job for me. I have proved them wrong time and time again.

How do you think about happiness?
There is a lot of things that make me happy! I love to swim, you know as a black female there is not a lot of African-American swimmers. I love the water, It brings me peace! When I swim my mind is clear and it’s like stress rolls off my body. Another thing that makes me happy is of course my husband, he grounds me and tells me that things will be alright.

I will add meeting people and seeing how I can help them with any problem or situation makes me happy as well.
