Daily Inspiration: Meet Brianna Trimble

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Trimble.

Hi Brianna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew I wanted to be a healthcare provider. It may have been the older sister in me, but I have always enjoyed taking care of others and ensuring they are okay. My career as a physical therapist started as a patient and evolved into becoming a lifelong learner, educator, and provider. I knew early in my undergraduate studies that I wanted to be a physical therapist, and that was solidified even more when I saw the intentionality behind the way physical therapists provide care. Once in school, all it took was one class to push me into the world of pelvic floor and women’s healthcare. I quickly learned the community needed more education and awareness about women’s health and physical therapy, and I knew I wanted to be the one to help bring light to it. Contributing to the diversification & inclusion of the pelvic health world, both from a personal and communal aspiration. Pelvic health physical therapy resonated deeply with me and provided an opportunity to make a meaningful impact far beyond the walls of a clinic. This specialty addresses not just the physical, but the emotional, mental, and social aspects of health.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles that have been presented to me along the way have only made me work harder toward my goals. A lot of long nights, exhaustion, and tears have been met with prayers, support, and unimaginable opportunities. My passion lies in the intersectionality of mental health and the disparities that present in women’s healthcare. Both of these topics resonate with me, and I am very transparent about my mental health story. There were failures in my academic, professional, and social spaces, but those moments only helped me grow into the clinician I am today. The more I learned, the more I understood that pursuing this specialization would allow me to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of protecting and building pelvic health. This intersection has captivated me and inspired my advocacy, particularly in addressing the disparities and inequalities women face, especially in regard to the black maternal mortality rate. Many people are unaware of how closely these two areas are linked and how pelvic pain can carry psychological burdens that can exacerbate physical symptoms.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Specializing in Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy has been the ultimate reward. Educating my community about their bodies and advocating for my patients fills my cup the most. I’m constantly seeking spaces where I can bridge the gap between inclusivity and injustices that are apparent in our healthcare system. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy encompasses so many different things, and whether I am treating incontinence, pregnancy, fertility, or pelvic pain, I go into each session wanting to provide quality care for each individual. I am a resource to my community, and health literacy and benefits should be avaliable to all who seek it out. I work to educate, advocate, and provide equitable care to women, and I am filled with purpose and determination to make a difference. I am committed to addressing the disparities and inequities in health care, particularly those affecting women and marginalized communities. No matter what setting I’m treating in, I am building relationships with each patient and, in turn, adding to their care in ways they may not see with other providers.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
You can be the smartest provider in the room, but if you can’t listen to a patient, build rapport, and provide support while treating the patient with the skills you have, there will always be a piece of quality care left out of the picture. My promise to my patients is that no matter how long it takes to relieve your symptoms, I will always take the time to listen. Healthcare is such a fast-paced world, and oftentimes you aren’t given enough time to speak with your provider. My goal has always been to be a positive part of their healing journey. Success can be measured in so many different ways, and daily I feel successful in my work because I have patients who finally feel like they are heard when we talk through their care. I feel rewarded each and every day because I move with purpose in each of my patients’ care.
