Daily Inspiration: Meet Connie Minish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie Minish.

Hi Connie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2021, my sister, business partner, and co-host inherited our circa 1962 childhood home and embarked upon a challenging renovation. The effort was definitely a passion project with the goal of updating the home that meant so much to us and our parents for our guests to enjoy and rest, relax, and recharge. We completely renovated the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and laundry room. We overcame many challenges including installing a large I beam to open up a separated living room, dining room, and formal living room. All plumbing and electrical were replaced. We worked with a talented designer to make decorating choices, creating a cohesive and relaxing space. A high level of communication and collaboration was required for the project as one partner lives in Texas while the other lives locally in Georgia. The one key feature of the property that needed no change was the beautiful 40 acres of woods and pastures surrounding the home. A small herd of 40 cattle roam the pasture, and they complement the property with quiet grace and a fair amount of curiosity about the different visitors we host.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were many challenges along the way. The general contractor replaced the project manager twice, timelines drew out, and there were many unexpected repairs including a new septic system, replacement of the well water purification system, a new roof, and an unplanned decision to convert the original wood burning fireplace with gas logs for the safety of our guests. Fortunately, this change resulted in a really aesthetically beautiful feature. In the end, we are delighted with the outcome of the project.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I spent my entire career serving others in my role as a Registered Nurse. I spent over 30 years in the Athens area working first in floor nursing, then in orthopedic and plastic surgery physician offices, and then in the out-patient surgery center at a local hospital. Helping others energized me and I enjoyed nurturing relationships and friendships with my many co-workers. I am most proud of showing up to serve others when needed, particularly in the early months of the Covid 19 epidemic when so little was known about the virus. I think my compassion and empathy for others sets me apart.

Regina spent her 30-year career in Marketing and Sales roles with the BNSF Railway, a railroad serving the US west. Her responsibilities included growing current customers, creating new customers, and leading pricing strategies for some markets BNSF serves. She would say the best part of her career was the opportunity to lead others to achieve the company’s financial goals and as importantly, lead her teammates to achieve their professional development goals.

Regina and I are now both retired and direct our customer satisfaction goals toward our guest experience!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite memories would be using a plastic Barbie brush to brush the hair between the ears of my favorite Charolais cow we named Bossie. Bossie earned her name with the herd but she would quickly “kowtow” whenever I appeared, especially with that Barbie brush.

One of Regina’s favorite childhood memories was being with our Dad on weekends while he dug – by hand – the original holes for fence posts where the cattle pasture presently lies. He was a weekend hobbyist farmer; he worked full-time at a local General Contracting firm.
