Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Lipeti.
Hi Cristina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first picked up a camera when I was 8 years old: a Sakar Crayola Digital Camera. I took it everywhere with me. Through middle school I started using iPhone and DLSR Cameras, approaching photography and video primarily for school projects. In high school I specialized in Arts, especially multimedia disciplines like History of Film, Storytelling, Visual Communication, Photography and Videomaking and in 2022 I graduated in Graphic Design. I chose to start working after graduation, mainly improving my skills in Graphic Design and Photography. Even though I went through other job fields and positions in the past few years, I am now a full-time Freelancer as a Photographer and Creative Director. I have always shared a passion for the automotive industry with my father, so I started working on my portfolio at 16 years old, photographing cars at minor event meets in Italy. Today, I specialize in Motorsports and Winter sports photography and have had the honor to contribute to Visual Communication for major events in those fields, such as 1000 Miglia, Italian GT Championships, European TCR Championships, Milano Cortina 2026, FIS Freestyle Skiing Championships and ISU Figure Skating Championships. My goal for the future is to help new generations grow into this field with proper Media equipment and Communicative attitude, by being a Mentor they can learn from.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a rocky road since the start, it still is. Being a full-time freelancer in the Arts isn’t easy, especially because the systems are outdated. Older generations judge, tell you dreams are not meant to be jobs. People reject you, even though your skills, personality, commitment, effort and attitude show otherwise. These are very competitive fields, especially now that everyone has acces to some kind of camera. Clients are difficult to conquer, difficult to keep too, sometimes. Finances are not easy either, especially at the start. Relocating or being away from loved ones can also be a challenge for many. I still face these challenges every day but getting up each time you fall can make a difference.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a Photographer, I mainly do Photo Reportage for Events in Motorsports and Winter sports. I’m based in Italy and the automotive culture is huge when it comes to race tracks. Formula 1 races just a couple of km away from my house! I usually try to give a cinematic cut to my Photography and mainly cover behind-the-scenes moments at events. I like to show the struggles of mechanics while they fix a broken pipe, or the frustration in drivers’ fists when they realize they could’ve done a personal best. I like to show tears of joy of athletes on the podium, knowing their country has their back, or the hand they give each other during an accident on the ice. These are all things that modern Media doesn’t commonly show. Maybe because it’s uncomfortable, maybe because it’s profound, maybe because they think people just want to see the results, the victories, the “kept together” image of everything. But I believe in truth, struggle, pain, challenges, sacrifices: all the things we don’t see. I’m proud of being different, of having a different vision towards for the world. I’ve always been labeled as the “talented but a bit weird” kid, but I’ve learned to embrace it, shaping me into the person that I am today.
