Daily Inspiration: Meet Roddrick Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roddrick Edwards.

Hi Roddrick, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey hasn’t been a straight line.. It’s been built through setbacks, reinvention, and refusing to quit when quitting would’ve been the easier option.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset. Over the years I’ve worn a lot of hats, but one thing has remained constant: I love serving people and creating experiences that bring them together. Food just became the language I speak best.
Chef Rodd was born from a passion for cooking and a desire to build something that belonged to me. What started as preparing meals for family, friends, and a handful of clients grew into a business centered around quality, consistency, and genuine care for the people I serve. Whether it’s weekly meal prep for busy professionals, private chef services, or catering life’s biggest celebrations, I believe every plate should reflect excellence.
The journey hasn’t been without challenges. Like many small business owners, I’ve had seasons where I questioned everything. I’ve dealt with financial obstacles, personal loss, and the constant pressure of building a business from the ground up. Those experiences didn’t stop me. They sharpened me. They taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of serving with integrity even when no one is watching.
Today, I’m continuing to grow Chef Rodd while expanding into other entrepreneurial ventures because I believe in creating opportunities, not waiting for them. More than anything, I want my story to show that success isn’t about having the perfect path. It’s about showing up, adapting, and refusing to let adversity have the final word.
At the end of the day, I don’t just want people to remember the food. I want them to remember how they felt. If I can make someone’s week easier through meal prep, help a family celebrate a milestone, or bring comfort during a difficult time, then I’m doing exactly what I was called to do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a business from the ground up comes with a level of uncertainty that most people don’t see. There have been financial challenges, long hours, slow seasons, and plenty of moments where I had to figure things out as I went. When you’re a small business owner, you’re the chef, marketer, accountant, customer service representative, and delivery driver all at once. It can be overwhelming. I’ve also faced personal hardships that tested me beyond business. Experiencing loss while trying to keep showing up for clients and continue building my dream wasn’t easy. There were days when I had to choose discipline over motivation because motivation isn’t always there. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success rarely happens overnight. There were times when I questioned whether I was making the right decisions, but every obstacle forced me to become more resourceful, more patient, and more intentional. Instead of seeing setbacks as failures, I started viewing them as part of the process. Today, I appreciate those struggles because they shaped the way I lead my business. They taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of treating every client with excellence. Every meal I prepare and every event I cater represents more than food. It represents the journey that made me who I am.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own and operate Chef Rodd, a personal chef and catering business specializing in premium meal prep, private chef services, and full-service catering for everything from intimate gatherings to large celebrations. My goal has always been to create food that delivers restaurant-quality flavor while remaining approachable, consistent, and made with care. Whether I’m preparing weekly meals for busy professionals or catering a special event, I believe every client deserves the same level of attention and excellence. What I’m most proud of isn’t just the business I’ve built, but the relationships I’ve built through it. Many of my clients return week after week and trust me to feed their families, celebrate their milestones, and even provide comfort during some of life’s most difficult moments. That kind of trust means more to me than any award because it’s earned one meal at a time. I believe what sets me apart is my consistency and my heart for service. I don’t believe in cutting corners or treating clients like transactions. I take the time to understand what people need, pay attention to the details, and make sure every dish reflects the standard I’ve set for my name. I’m constantly looking for ways to improve, refine my craft, and deliver an experience that people remember long after the meal is over. For me, success isn’t measured only by how many events I cater or meals I sell. It’s measured by the impact I leave on the people I serve. If someone finishes a meal and feels cared for, celebrated, or simply has one less thing to worry about that week, then I’ve accomplished exactly what I set out to do. In addition to Chef Rodd, I am also one of the owners of FYE FOTOS, a successful 360 photo booth business that I’ve proudly helped build and grow over the past five years. Through FYE FOTOS, I’ve been able to bring energy, creativity, and unforgettable experiences to events of all kinds, capturing moments that people can enjoy and relive long after the celebration is over. Above all of my professional accomplishments, I am a very proud father. Being a dad is my greatest motivation and the role that drives everything I do. It keeps me grounded, focused, and inspired to continue building businesses and creating opportunities that I can be proud to pass on one day.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up on the west side of Atlanta, born and raised in a tough environment that shaped me early. My parents struggled with addiction, but still managed to do a well enough job that life wasn’t horrible, but I did have to grow up fast. As the only boy with two older sisters, I naturally became protective and responsible at a young age. My childhood wasn’t easy, but it taught me how to adapt. I wasn’t a bad kid, just very independent and always figuring things out on my own. I learned to read people, situations, and energy early on, which helped me move smart and stay out of unnecessary trouble. That’s where my emotional intelligence really started. I also developed a strong hustler mindset—I always believed I could make something out of nothing. I stayed outside, stayed active, and stayed connected to my environment, always learning from what was around me. Around that time, I also started getting into food and cooking. It began as curiosity but turned into something I could focus on and express myself through. Looking back, growing up like that built my resilience, creativity, and drive. It taught me how to turn pressure into purpose, and those lessons still guide me today.
