Daily Inspiration: Meet Sharell Thorpe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharell Thorpe.

Hi Sharell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Sharell Thorpe and my journey as an author is really a story of starting over. Writing became more than a creative outlet, it became the foundation I used to rebuild my life. During seasons of uncertainty, I discovered that every setback gave me another opportunity to create something meaningful, and I chose to turn my experiences into words that could encourage healing in others.

Becoming an independent author taught me that publishing a book is only the beginning. I had to learn how to wear many hats; writer, editor, publisher, marketer, and entrepreneur. With limited resources but an unwavering belief in my purpose I continued investing in my craft, finding creative ways to share my work, and building something I could truly call my own.

Today, my writing is rooted in hope, resilience, and authenticity. Whether through poetry or personal reflection, my goal is to remind people that starting over doesn’t mean starting from nothing. Every challenge, lesson, and chapter we’ve survived becomes part of the foundation we’re building. If my story inspires even one person to keep believing in themselves after life has knocked them down, then every step of my journey has been worthwhile.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth, but I wouldn’t trade the lessons I’ve learned along the way. One of my biggest obstacles was learning how to keep believing in my vision before anyone else did. As an independent author, you’re not just writing a book, you’re navigating new waters while building an audience, often time with limited resources and a lot of trial and error.

There were also personal seasons where I had to rebuild my confidence and rediscover my purpose, as well as lifting myself out of depression because sometimes, life just be life’n. But those moments challenged me to keep creating even when progress felt slow or success wasn’t immediate. I’ve learned that prayer, persistence, and having a strong support system is just as important if not more than talent.

Looking back, I realize the challenges didn’t stop my journey, they shaped it. They taught me to embrace growth, trust the process, and understand that success isn’t always measured by how quickly you arrive, but by your willingness to keep going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an author, a writer, and a content creator, who somehow turned “just talking to people on the internet” into one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

My writing focuses on healing, growth, self reflection, and finding hope in difficult seasons. In 2023, I published my first novelette, “Loving Lola,” which was born from a time in my life where I was relearning how to love myself. It’s a story near and dear to my heart because it isn’t just about me, but every woman I’ve ever met. While, it may seem like a story written for women, it’s themes of heartbreak, healing, and rediscovering yourself are something anyone can relate to.

As I began working on the second book in what will be a three-part series, life took an unexpected turn. I lost everything and was forced to rebuild from the ground up. I found myself in one of the darkest seasons of my life, but even while I was knee-deep in depression, I kept writing. Every emotion, every struggle, and every lesson I was forced to confront found its way into my first poetry collection, “I Break, I Heal, I Love.”

Everything I write comes from my own experiences, emotions, and reflections on life. Writing has always been my way of processing the world around me, and my greatest hope is that someone can find a piece of themselves in my words and feel a little less alone.

Outside of writing, I started posting on TikTok in late 2022. At first, I was honestly just yapping and sharing whatever was on my mind. I never expected it to grow into the community it has, but over time it’s become a space where people show up to have real conversations about life, relationships, and everything in between. Knowing someone feels comfortable enough to open up or say, “I needed to hear that today,” is probably one of the things I’m most proud of.

I think what sets me apart is that I don’t try to pretend I’ve got life all figured out. I’m figuring it out too. Whether I’m writing a book or making a TikTok, I’m just sharing what I’ve learned along the way and hoping it helps someone else. I care more about making people feel seen than saying the perfect thing, and I think that’s why so many people have connected with my work.

At the end of the day, whether it’s a page from one of my books, a poem I’ve written, or a video of me talking, I just want to leave people with a little more hope than they had before they found me.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I think my relationship with Atlanta is a little interesting because I’m still discovering it. Although I’ve been here since 2007, I wasn’t able to experience where I live until about 2020.

I must admit, I’m more of a homebody and an introvert, so I don’t spend a lot of time in the city unless I’m exploring new restaurants or trying different foods so I rarely experience something that catches my interest. Though, I wouldn’t say I dislike Atlanta at all, one thing I do appreciate about this city is how much creativity and culture exist here.

There are so many museums, art spaces, bookstores and hidden gems that I would love to explore more of. I love the idea of learning something new while putting myself in an environment I’ve never been in before.

But, I think the biggest challenge for me is that exploring new places is always more fun when you have someone to share those experiences with. As someone who is naturally more reserved, stepping outside of my comfort zone alone can be difficult. However, I think the beauty of Atlanta is that it has so much to offer and there’s always another corner of the city waiting to be discovered.
