Daily Inspiration: Meet Tanmay Kirani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanmay Kirani.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Flare to Care actually started out as an Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan event in DECA as of 2024. I wanted to create something that could genuinely help Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients all around the world. To help them navigate their lives and help out in tracking all their markers, I focused on creating a non-clinical, just a tracking tool and resource hub for patients throughout the world along with my partner, Atulith Kuchi.

Throughout the project and over time, the idea grew into an actual mission. I have been working to get Flare to Care approved by Google ADs so we can gain revenue and donate to the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation in their research to finding a cure. Seeing a concept evolve from a competition into a real-world project that makes an actual impact on research for conditions and helping patients with tracking has helped pushed forward to the work that has been done today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road but the struggles and challenges helped shape the project the way it is today.

Since the beginning, I’ve been working on understanding and managing legal liabilities such as HIPAA for a healthcare-adjacent project. Instead, I have pivoted Flare to Care into a non-clinical website with educational resources and a tracking website.

I originally started small but working with my partner Atulith Kuchi we scaled it up to have over 650 followers and 4 IBD influencers to support our brand on instagram. Additionally, we have partnered with 2 organizations, Climate Kills Initiative and Ink and Ivy World. With the Climate Kills Initiative we helped patients understand how the climate can impact a patient’s gut and cause flares. With Ink and Ivy World, we worked to write letters to IBD patients in hospitals with kindergarten kids in North Carolina.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a rising Junior at West Forsyth High School. I specialize in building digital tools and using it to benefit others in their works in the community. Through Flare to Care, I focus on supporting IBD patients and help patients at least get rid of the burden of tracking and getting lost in the complicated medical terms through the resource hub.

What I’m most proud about is seeing how a conceptual idea of a casual project turned into a real world idea with a website and patients following this journey of the website.

What sets Flare To Care apart is our focus on the whole patient experience, not just the medical side. We combine user-friendly digital tools with community outreach. By listening to what patients actually need in their daily lives, I was able to adapt quickly and create a solution that offers both resource support and peace of mind. Additionally we strive to donate 15% to the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation to help them find the research to cure this condition for once and for all after we gain revenue.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising but also saddening about this project is that throughout my journey in this project, I met up with a lot of people who introduced their stories to me. Teachers, friends, neighbors, and many more explained that this was an ongoing issue they were facing. I wanted to make sure that no one has to go through this alone and without guidance, enabling us to start Flare to Care.
