Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Amber K. Abney of The Abney Group, Inc., Women Empowered By Prayer Ministries & Logan Christian University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Amber K. Abney.

Hi Dr. Amber K. , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, where I learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith at an early age. Those values helped me earn a track and field scholarship to the University of South Florida, where I became an NCAA All-American while earning my bachelor’s degree.

In 2003, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to begin my career in the insurance industry. What started as an opportunity to build a career eventually became a passion for serving families and helping them protect what matters most. Today, I am the owner of the Amber Abney Allstate Insurance Agency, which has grown into a $10 million agency through a commitment to excellence, customer service, and strong leadership.

My passion extends far beyond business. Following the passing of my father, Deacon Abraham Logan, in 2023, I founded Logan Christian University in his honor. My father had an unwavering passion for learning and personal growth, and the university reflects his legacy by equipping students with biblical education and leadership development.

I also founded Women Empowered By Prayer Ministries, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women through faith. Through conferences, Bible study courses, mentorship programs, and prayer initiatives, we encourage women to strengthen their relationship with God, discover their purpose, and lead with confidence.

In addition, I established the Conrad Joseph Williams, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation in memory of my late nephew. The foundation provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are pursuing higher education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), ensuring that his legacy continues by helping the next generation achieve their educational dreams.

Looking back, every chapter of my journey (from being a student-athlete to becoming a business owner, educator, ministry leader, and philanthropist) has been guided by faith and a desire to serve others. My mission is to create lasting impact by helping people protect their futures, strengthen their faith, and pursue the purpose God has placed on their lives.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has included both personal and professional challenges. I experienced the pain of marriage and divorce while navigating the responsibilities of being an active single mother and simultaneously building and leading a successful business.

There were seasons that required tremendous faith, resilience, and perseverance. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, ministry, and personal healing was not easy, but each challenge strengthened my character and deepened my purpose. I learned that setbacks are often setups for greater opportunities and that adversity can become the foundation for growth.

Looking back, I can honestly say that every obstacle I have faced has prepared me for where I am today. Those experiences have made me a stronger leader, a more compassionate mentor, and a woman of unwavering faith. They have taught me to embrace life’s challenges as opportunities to grow, serve others, and fulfill the purpose God has placed on my life.

Logan Christian University was founded to provide affordable, accessible biblical education while developing the next generation of Christian leaders. Women Empowered By Prayer Ministries exists to equip and empower women through prayer, mentorship, Bible studies, leadership development, and transformational conferences that strengthen both their faith and their purpose. What sets my brand apart is that it is built on purpose, not just profit. The accomplishment I am most proud of is not the growth of my businesses, but the lives that have been transformed because someone believed in them, prayed with them, educated them, or provided an opportunity they otherwise may not have had. Every organization I have founded exists to leave people better than I found them and to create a legacy that will impact generations to come.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely. As a lifelong learner and woman of faith, I believe that growth is intentional. The greatest resource in my life is the Bible. It serves as my foundation for every decision I make in business, ministry, leadership, and life. My prayer time and daily study of God’s Word provide the wisdom, peace, and direction I need to lead with purpose.

I also enjoy reading books on leadership, personal development, and entrepreneurship because I believe great leaders never stop learning. Podcasts and educational content focused on business strategy, faith-based leadership, and personal growth help me stay inspired and continue evolving as both a leader and a servant.
From a practical standpoint, I rely on technology and organizational tools to help manage multiple organizations, teams, and projects effectively. My faith has sustained me through every challenge, opened doors I never imagined possible, and continually reminds me that true success is measured not only by what we achieve, but by the lives we impact along the way.
