Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Jett.

Hi Alexandria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always known that animals would be a part of my life. Growing up, I was surrounded by a variety of companions, from cats and dogs to exotic birds and sugar gliders. My early experiences around animals taught me the importance of understanding their individual needs, providing proper care, and creating meaningful connections. I was fortunate to have my grandmother as an influence in the pet industry, where I saw firsthand the importance of compassion, responsible care, and creating a better quality of life for the animals we share our lives with.

My first job was working alongside my grandmother at her pet booth, which sparked my passion for the animal industry and the human-animal bond. That experience eventually led me to become a veterinary technician, where I continued learning about animal health, behavior, and wellness. I later expanded my experience within the pet retail industry, gaining a deeper understanding of how the right support, resources, and guidance can help both pets and their families thrive.

As I continued learning about animals, I discovered the incredible world of positive reinforcement dog training and the impact it can have on the relationship between people and their dogs. I knew I had found my calling and never looked back.

Since 2017, I have immersed myself in professional reward-based dog training, gaining experience through group classes, private lessons, and mentorship. In 2019, I had the opportunity to shadow an experienced trainer and dive deeper into behavior modification, including helping dogs with challenges such as reactivity and fear-based behaviors.

Throughout my journey, I have continued expanding my knowledge through dog sports and enrichment activities, including dock diving, barn hunt, agility, rally, and trick training. I have also had the opportunity to help develop a dedicated dog training department and became an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator in 2021.

Today, through Garden of Canine Training, I continue that lifelong mission of helping dogs and their families build stronger relationships. My goal is to empower dogs, enrich their lives, and provide families with the tools and understanding they need to create a positive, lasting bond with their companions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe any path worth taking is going to have bumps in the road. Every experience, both the successes and the challenges, provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and continue moving forward.

Building Garden of Canine Training has been a journey of creating something from the ground up. I started this business by relying on my experience, my passion for helping dogs and their families, and the relationships I have built within my community. Each client I have worked with has come through genuine connections, referrals, and people who believe in the value of creating a stronger bond with their dog.

One of the biggest challenges I have faced has been building awareness around positive, reward-based dog training. While this approach continues to grow, more traditional training methods have been the mainstream for many years. Helping people understand the value of focusing on communication, trust, and long-term relationships rather than quick fixes takes time.

The dog training industry is also very competitive, and finding the right clients who share the same values has been an important part of my journey. The families I work with are looking for more than just a trained dog—they want to better understand their companion and create a relationship built on trust.

While the road has not always been easy, these challenges have strengthened my commitment to my mission. Seeing the progress of each dog and family I work with reminds me why I chose this path and why I continue striving to help others experience the incredible bond that comes from positive training.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe that meaningful growth often requires taking calculated risks. To me, risk is not about making impulsive decisions—it is about recognizing an opportunity, trusting the experience you have built, and having the courage to take the next step.

For many small business owners, one of the first major risks is stepping away from the security and predictability of traditional employment to pursue a vision of your own. Starting Garden of Canine Training was that leap for me. I chose to build something from the ground up that aligned with my values and my belief that dogs and their families deserve training built on trust, understanding, and positive experiences.

While there was no guaranteed path, I had spent years building my knowledge through animal care, dog training, behavior work, and working with pet parents. I trusted the experience I had gained and the relationships I had built within my community.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that taking a risk does not mean having every answer before you begin. It means being willing to continue learning, adapting, and growing along the way. Building this business has challenged me in ways I never expected, but it has also allowed me to create something I am deeply passionate about.

Looking back, taking that first step has been one of the most rewarding decisions I have made. Every client I work with and every dog I help reminds me why I chose to take that risk and build Garden of Canine Training.
