Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Catali.

Hi Ana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My life began in circumstances that required resilience from an early age. After a tragic event, I entered witness protection and later moved through the foster care system. During that time, music and art became my refuge that calmed my nerves and gave me a sense of escape, expression, and safety.
I was fortunate to be placed with a few loving families who believed in my dreams and were committed to protecting my heart as much as my future. Their support gave me the confidence to continue creating — writing music, making art, and slowly imagining a life shaped by creativity.

In 2016, I founded my own entertainment company as a way to protect myself, retain creative control, and establish boundaries in an industry that often overlooks them. Since then, I’ve contributed to numerous musical projects that sharpened my skills, strengthened my ear, and deepened my understanding of the craft and business of music.

Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from respected artists, executives, and industry leaders. The journey has been anything but linear — it’s been a true rollercoaster — but each experience has encouraged me to share my vision.

Today, I remain committed to building something meaningful, fun and sustainable. Create work I can stand behind with pride and purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although I come from a family with deep roots in the music industry, my religious upbringing introduced internal conflicts about whether pursuing music was the right path for me. Combined with the realities and cautionary tales I encountered about the industry, this led to periods of hesitation. I stepped away from being the face of my music more than once, only to return each time with greater clarity and determination.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer-songwriter and creative artist performing under the name CATALI. My latest work blends tribal music with deep house, I chose this blend to acknowledge my American indigenous Cherokee and Koroan ancestry. My overall work has always blended contemporary R&B with influences from rock, house music, and cinematic storytelling. I’ve always believed that music should do more than entertain—it should make people feel something, remember something, or see the world differently.

As an independent artist signed to my own independent label, ILLI Entertainment, I’m involved in nearly every part of the creative process. From writing songs and developing visual concepts to building my brand and directing the overall artistic vision, I enjoy creating projects where the music and visuals tell one cohesive story. Every release is an opportunity to create an immersive experience rather than just a song.

What I’m most proud of is staying true to my creative vision. Independent artists often face pressure to follow trends, but I’ve chosen to build my career around authenticity and long-term artistry. That has allowed me to experiment with different sounds while maintaining a style that feels genuine to who I am.

What sets me apart is my focus on world-building. I don’t just create music—I create an atmosphere around it through storytelling, visuals, animation, fashion, and symbolism. Whether someone discovers my work through a song, a music video, or a visual campaign, I want them to feel like they’ve stepped into the same creative universe. My goal is to make art that people can return to and continue discovering something new each time they experience it.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the music industry is becoming more artist-driven than ever before. Technology has made it possible for independent artists to create, distribute, and market their work on a global scale without relying solely on traditional gatekeepers. Over the next five to ten years, I believe we’ll continue to see artists building their own brands, businesses, and communities rather than simply pursuing record deals.

I also think audiences are looking for authenticity. Fans want to connect with the person behind the music, not just the finished product. That means storytelling, visual identity, live experiences, and direct engagement with fans will become just as important as the music itself.

Artificial intelligence will continue to change how music and visual content are created, but I don’t believe it will replace genuine artistry. Instead, I see it becoming another creative tool that artists can use to bring bigger ideas to life. The heart of music will always come from human emotion, experiences, and perspective.

Overall, I see the future belonging to artists who are willing to be adaptable, think like entrepreneurs, and stay true to their creative vision. Those who can combine authenticity with innovation will be in the strongest position to build lasting careers.
