Meet Tanasia Harris of Tekani Sports

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanasia Harris.

Hi Tanasia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as an active young girl always participating in sports with a non-active family. Even though I participated in Track and Field and Cheerleading in high school, I knew that sport’s was something I did not want to do in college. However, I’ve always wanted to stay active and in shape. Realizing this on top of seeing my family experience various health struggles, this drove me to learn about the body and how it functions because no one else around me had the knowledge that was needed to change their health around for the better. Exercise and nutrition became more than a hobby and transformed into a passion. I started to guide my family through workouts and realized that if I can help my family, I can help others too! Since the pivotal year of 2020, I have helped hundreds of individuals reach their health goals.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From lack of support from some family and friends, navigating the ups and downs of client motivation, and the inconsistent income can definitely make a bumpy road along the way. Many people wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to go through a transformational journey with someone who may not want to change as much as they did in the beginning. I’ve found that client motivation and accountability is key when retaining clients. Income is always uncertain being a personal trainer. Vacations, special occasions, loss of motivation, and/or schedule conflicts can definitely get in the way of exercise programs.

We’ve been impressed with Tekani Sports, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Christian woman who follows Jesus Christ and I always wanted my business to be based off of the Word of God. The “Tekani” in “Tekani Sports” means to be joyful or rejoice. Psalms 118:24 in the Bible says, “This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” I always want people to be reminded of this because there are so many life changes that are so pivotal in our lives. It’s comforting to know that we are blessed to be alive and to have the ability to express our bodies through movement, and that is something to rejoice for!

Certification wise I am a Certified Exercise Physiologist, Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, Emergency Medical Responder, and am CPR Certified. I provide assisted stretching, thorough body composition measurements, nutrition advice, personalized exercise programs, group fitness classes, and daily check-ins for every single person with very affordable pricing. I specialize in weight loss, however, I have had clients in the past with weight gain, maintenance, and body recomposition goals. The magic happens in an intimate exercise space where people can have a peace of mind, avoiding any anxiety they may have going to an intimidating commercial gym.

I want people to know that Tekani Sports is for anyone and everyone! I want people to know that every client of mine is family. I have their best interests at heart and I am dedicated to apply what I know to skyrocket their confidence and well-being. Some say maybe I’m a little “too” dedicated because I may be confident that their end goal is indeed possible, even though they may not see it themselves yet. It’s more than being a personal trainer; it’s being a therapist, friend, sister in Christ, and accountability partner.

I am most proud of the integrity of Tekani Sports. It is truly a mission and a ministry, and whatever comes my way in the future, I will rejoice and be GLAD in it!!

How do you define success?
Success to me is having a peace of mind in every aspect in your life. Mentally having peace in your relationships, finances, and career is my definition of success. Many people define success by accomplishments and accolades, but true peace is truly what success means to me.
