Rising Stars: Meet Jas Banks of Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jas Banks.

Hi Jas, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Jas Banks, musically known as Jasmine Rose, and I am an independent artist, writer, director, producer, and actress from Chicago IL. Being asked recently what lead me to the entertainment industry, I would have to answer that by saying that I’ve always had the drive for film/music but I just had to find my road. In 2022 while recovering from surgery I took a leap of faith, and that was the official start of my journey. I state “Official” because I have always been involved in script, and song writing since I was a pre-teen. Providing me with an escape, imagination, and a voice of expression, it has been my lifelong companion. Thus, I began my acting career in late 2022, and then released my first short film in 2023. 2024 I co-founded Foreign Productions and we have released 3 feature films, and 4 albums in only a short two year span. So now, in adulthood seeing those childhood dreams become a reality is so surreal, and heartwarming.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been bumpy, for sure. But nothing great is easy. This industry comes with ups, and downs just as life itself does. Films don’t always perform well, songs don’t always get a-lot of streams, you don’t always find your crowd. But, to know that your work of art is out in the world to be viewed, and heard is a reward that can’t be written. A lot of people are not able to create a film or music. Therefore, you will always be successful because you didn’t just talk about it, you did it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Newly founded I can proudly say that i have two films currently streaming. Karma a horror comedy film, which is available on platforms such as Amazon prime, Tubi, afroland tv, sling tv, stash tv, Apple TV, Roku tv & more. My other project Spade is an action sports film streaming on Tubi, hoopla, Vimeo, Xumo, Pluto, plex, Apple TV etc. Speaking of the film Spade, when it comes to my acting credits, i am most notably known for portraying Dina. I also have a newly released single titled Letter To Me Ft Khalil streaming on all music platforms, which I am tremendously proud of. The song is a letter to oneself, and it is very deeply rooted. In the entertainment industry it’s hard to standout, and create a lane of your own. I believe that I have been able to successfully achieve this by remaining authentic to myself as well as my audience. I think what separates me from others is the fact that I never try to be like anyone, or compete with somebody else, other than ME! As I am always trying to be better than I was before.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Sometimes the best things are also the least favorite things. Weather is nice, but then sometimes it’s not. If that makes sense
