Today we’d like to introduce you to Odd Mojo.
Hi Odd , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Odd Mojo, and I’m a hip-hop artist from the DMV. I started making music because it gave me a way to express things I didn’t always know how to put into words. What began as a creative outlet eventually turned into something I knew I wanted to pursue seriously.
As I grew as an artist, I became interested in everything behind the music too, not just writing songs, but recording, producing, and understanding how great records are made. That passion led me to study Audio Engineering and Music Production, where I’ve continued developing my sound and my skills.
Today, I’m focused on creating music that’s honest, story-driven, and true to who I am. I’m also expanding into film and television because storytelling has always been at the heart of everything I create. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, but I still feel like I’m just getting started, and I’m excited to keep growing as both an artist and a creative.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles was the pressure I put on myself to “make it” by a certain age. I was constantly comparing my journey to everyone else’s, and it made me feel like I was running out of time. That pressure became so overwhelming that there were moments when I wanted to give up, and I even struggled with thoughts of unaliving myself.
Over time, I realized I was chasing a timeline that wasn’t meant for me. I’m learning that everyone’s journey looks different, and there’s no deadline on becoming the person you’re meant to be.
I still struggle with self compassion, and there are days when I catch myself falling back into that mindset of not doing enough or not moving fast enough. That’s actually why I started writing affirmations on sticky notes. They’re simple, but they’ve become a way to pause, ground myself, and remind myself to be kinder to myself. They remind me that where I am today is enough, and that my worth isn’t determined by how quickly I “make it.” I’m still learning that lesson every day, but I’m giving myself grace along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a rapper first, but I consider myself an all around creative. Along with making music, I’m also a model, audio engineer, music producer, and screenwriter. I love being involved in every part of the creative process because each skill helps me tell stories in a different way.
Most people know me for my music, especially back home in the DMV. That’s where I first started building my name, and it’s a community that continues to inspire me.
What I’m most proud of isn’t one specific accomplishment, it’s the fact that I keep choosing to believe in myself. Every song I release, every visual I create, and every project I bring to life started as an idea. Watching those ideas become something real reminds me why I started creating in the first place.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m not trying to fit into one lane. Whether I’m making music, writing a screenplay, producing a record, or working behind the scenes as an audio engineer, it all comes back to storytelling. I want people to feel something when they experience my work. My goal has never been to just make content, but it’s to create art that people can connect with and hopefully see a piece of themselves in.
How do you think about happiness?
Creating music always makes me happy because it’s one of the few places where I can be completely myself. It’s how I process my thoughts, tell stories, and connect with people.
Outside of music, I love spending time with my friends and family. They keep me grounded and remind me that life is about more than work and chasing goals.
I also have a cat name Lotus who brings me so much joy, and I’m a big fan of going to the movies. I love getting lost in a good film and seeing how different people tell stories. It always leaves me inspired to create something of my own.
