Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Tyler Jr.
Hi Ron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
You know, growing up in East Cleveland, Ohio really laid the foundation for my love of the arts. Back in those younger years, I was all about organized sports and performing arts, and that passion stuck with me through high school. When it was time for college, I headed to The Ohio State University to deeply engage myself in Business Management with a Finance focus, and I couldn’t resist throwing in a minor in performing arts. It was a well-rounded mix that set the stage for where I am today.
Now, after about six years in the whole banking and corporate world scene, I felt this itch for something different. So, come August 2010, I packed my bags and made my way down to Atlanta, Georgia. I was on a mission to go full time into the entertainment world. Atlanta was this melting pot of cultures and opportunities, promising a fresh start. It wasn’t just changing my address; it was transforming not just my location but also my entire vision.
Started with acting gigs on big TV productions and shadowing industry big shots. It wasn’t long before my journey took a turn into producing and directing, giving birth to PAYUS Productions. I started helping others bring their ideas to life, shifting from doing my own thing to teaming up for some collaborative storytelling.
Then came the natural shift from being the face in front of the camera to the guy shaping the stories behind it. I kicked off PAYUS Productions, and a few years later, I thought, “You know what? I want my own studio.” That’s how Tyler Studios came to life—a clear sign that I was dead serious about following my passion.
Sure, jumping into entrepreneurship in entertainment had its tough moments, but that stubborn, determined spirit of mine turned me from an actor to a creator. Becoming a storyteller behind the lens allowed me to influence and guide the narrative. That’s where I discovered my rhythm.
So, here’s the scoop: I took a surprising turn in my recent endeavors when I decided to get back in front of the camera. It injected new life into what I love doing, pushing me to lead my own personal projects. One of the highlights? The much-anticipated podcast/talk show, “Tyler Uncovered.” It’s like a mashup of some cool shows you might know, blending vibes from “Hart to Heart, with Kevin Hart,” “Caresha Please with Yung Miami,” and the social chill of “Drink Champs.” It’s not just about interviews; it’s a full-on experience, bringing out genuine and unfiltered stories. While it brings its own set of challenges, it’s a new chapter with big plans ahead.
Now, why dive into podcasting and more in-house projects? Simple. I believe there’s more to me that people haven’t seen yet. It’s about getting up close and personal with you, the audience. “Tyler Uncovered” and other stuff I’m cooking up are all about sharing genuine stories and creating a space where realness is the star. It’s my way of making sure we hear voices and stories that might not always get the spotlight. This shift is all about exploring new ways to tell stories, including my own and making sure we’ve got meaningful stuff hitting the entertainment scene.
Beyond the spotlight, I’m passionate about youth mentorship through the Life Starz Project, my internship program at my production studio, and community collaborations. My journey shows the power of faith, sticking with it, and never giving up. As I continue growing my brand, there are more wins to come in the ever-changing world of entertainment.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nah, it hasn’t been a smooth road, not by a long shot. Like many in the entertainment industry, I’ve faced numerous challenges—rejections, financial obstacles, pertaining to getting projects off the ground, and moments of self-doubt. Those times when you question if you’re on the right path? I’ve danced with those demons more times than I can count. Shifting from the corporate world to acting and then jumping headfirst into entrepreneurship? Man, that’s a whole rollercoaster on its own. It demanded every ounce of effort, and let me tell you, persistence became my best friend.
Now, let’s talk about setbacks. Oh, I’ve had my fair share. But here’s the kicker—this mindset of mine, this “never give up” attitude, that’s what kept me going. It’s like having a stubborn streak, but in the best way possible. I’d hit a roadblock, take a breath, and then find a way around it. They weren’t roadblocks, they were just detours on my journey.
The path to success? It’s like a minefield. Step on a challenge, and it might feels like you’re about to blow up, but in reality, it’s just a stepping-stone. Yeah, it gets tough, but those tough moments? They’re the ones that push you to grow, to achieve things you never thought possible. It’s like forging a sword in the fire—you come out sharper, stronger, and ready for whatever the industry throws your way. I’m big on my independence when it comes to this industry, that’s me, being real with you. Things may take a little longer to fully evolve when you want them to, but they will as long as you keep pushing forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do a bit of everything in the entertainment biz. Known as a creative, I specialize in telling great stories and bringing ideas to life, handling the whole production process from start to finish, the business side included. My journey, moving from business to acting and producing, sets me apart in a unique way. I’m proud of where it’s taken me.
What makes me stand out is how much I love what I do and how well I work with others. Shifting from being in front of the camera to crafting stories behind it gives me a double perspective that boosts the quality of my work. When I’m in front of the camera, I remember what it’s like behind it, and vice versa. It’s like having a secret ingredient that makes my work richer and more relatable. So, whether you see me on screen or see the stories I create, you’re getting a double dose of my passion and experience, making everything I do top-notch.
Launching PAYUS Productions and Tyler Studios was a big win for me. These entities are all about creativity and innovation, not just for my projects but for supporting other creators. I’m proud of the mentorship work I do as well, particularly in grooming other creatives who are just starting off in their career. Giving back to my community is essential to me; that’s been a big part of my journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What brings me joy is consistently making a positive impact wherever I go. It’s all about spreading positive vibes, emphasizing respect and transparency in every aspect—be it with family, friends, or business partners. On a lighter note, I find happiness in dining out, staying active, going on vacations, cherishing moments with loved ones, and occasionally indulging in binge-watching my favorite shows or movies. On the business front, the thrill of bringing ideas to life and witnessing completed projects is a constant source of happiness for me. My mind is always buzzing with new ideas and possibilities, so stay tuned in!
