Rising Stars: Meet SONJA LAUREN of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to SONJA LAUREN.

Hi SONJA, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m originally from Chicago, where I grew up with my single mother and two older brothers. Being the only girl, I often felt like I was in my own little world, so I learned to create my own. I would imagine myself as an actress, a famous singer, a doctor, you name it. That imagination eventually led me to content creation. At 11 years old, I got my first camcorder and started making funny videos, which I would post on Facebook for my classmates. I quickly realized how much I loved creating and being in front of the camera. It became an outlet where I felt free to express myself and dream without worrying about how I would be perceived.

As I got older, my content evolved from funny videos into beauty, lifestyle, and eventually faith-based content. But the heart behind it stayed the same. I’ve always wanted to inspire women. As I experienced more of life, I realized that because I didn’t have an older sister, there were so many things I had to learn and navigate on my own. I didn’t want other women to feel that way. I wanted to create the kind of encouragement and guidance that I needed myself while learning about confidence, identity, purpose, faith, and becoming a woman.

Today, I create content around lifestyle, fashion, and faith, with the goal of helping women become the best version of themselves. My content has evolved because I have evolved, and in many ways, my years of content have become a visual diary of that journey. I’ve had to remind myself of my “why” as content creation has grown and become more competitive, but I always come back to the same purpose: using my voice to inspire women.

After graduating from college, I moved to Atlanta five years ago because I saw it as a place where I could find community, grow, and be surrounded by ambitious people who looked like me. Atlanta represented a fresh start and became an important part of my personal and professional journey.

When I look back at the 11-year-old girl with her camera, I think she would be proud that I stayed authentic. I’ve had opportunities to compromise my morals or values for attention and growth, but I’ve never wanted success at the expense of who I am or what I believe. What started as an outlet for a little girl in Chicago has grown into a platform and a purpose, and I’m grateful that I get to use my voice to remind women that they don’t have to navigate life alone.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. There have been a lot of highs and lows throughout my journey, especially because I started creating so young. I’ve had seasons where I questioned whether I was good enough, whether I was growing fast enough, and whether I should keep going. As content creation became more competitive and it felt like everyone was becoming a creator, it became easy to compare myself to other people and lose sight of why I started.

I’ve also had to navigate growing and changing while having my journey happen publicly. My content has changed as I’ve changed, and sometimes figuring out what I wanted to say, who I wanted to be, and what direction I wanted to take my platform in was difficult. There have been times when I’ve wanted to completely start over, but I’ve learned that evolution doesn’t mean I’m failing. It means I’m becoming.

One of my biggest lessons has been learning to stay committed to my purpose even when the results aren’t immediate. I’ve had to remind myself that my value isn’t determined by views, followers, or how quickly I reach the next milestone. I started creating because it was an outlet and because I wanted to inspire women, and whenever I come back to that, I find my way again.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but I think the difficult seasons have made me a better creator and, more importantly, a better woman. I’m still becoming, and I think that’s part of what makes the journey so meaningful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By trade, I’m a Senior Marketing Strategist, so by day I work in marketing and help brands think strategically about their audiences, messaging, content, and overall marketing approach. Outside of that, I’m a content creator, which is something I’ve been doing since I was 11 years old. So in a lot of ways, I’m a marketer by day and a creator by night.

As a creator, I specialize in lifestyle, fashion, and faith-based content, with a focus on helping women become the best version of themselves. I want my content to feel like a mix of inspiration, encouragement, and practical advice. Whether I’m talking about fashion, beauty, becoming more confident, creating a beautiful lifestyle, or growing in faith, I want women to leave my content feeling like they can take the next step in their own lives.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve stayed true to that purpose for so many years. I started creating before it was the career that it is today, and I’ve watched both the industry and myself evolve. My content has grown with me, almost like a visual diary of who I’ve been and who I’m becoming.

I think what sets me apart is the combination of my creative experience and my marketing background, but also the fact that I genuinely understand the journey I’m speaking about. I’m not trying to present myself as someone who has everything figured out. I’m becoming too. I’m figuring out my career, my faith, my identity, my style, and what it means to build a life I’m proud of, and I bring women along for that journey.

At the end of the day, I don’t want to just create content that people consume and forget. I want to create something that makes women feel seen, inspired, and equipped to become who they’re meant to be.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many ways to connect with me! People can work with me through brand partnerships, content collaborations, and other creative opportunities that align with my platform and the women I serve. I’m always open to connecting with brands, creators, and organizations that share my values and want to create something meaningful.

And of course, the easiest way to support me is simply to follow along and engage with my content. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel, Sonja Lauren, and follow me on Instagram at @sonja_lauren. I’m also on other social platforms, where I share lifestyle, fashion, faith, and pieces of my journey. Every follow, comment, share, and conversation genuinely helps me continue doing what I love and reaching more women.
