Rising Stars: Meet Tiffany Kim of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Kim.

Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I would say my story really begins in college. I went to Columbia University thinking I would major in Visual Arts, but quickly realized that my creative brain wasn’t quite aligned with being a fine artist. I ended up choosing Architecture, which felt like a much better fit, although I could also tell that I didn’t feel the same calling toward architecture that some of my peers did.

The summer before my senior year, I interned at an online furniture retailer called Kathy Kuo Home and was formally introduced to the world of interior design. I was immediately hooked. It felt like the perfect balance between visual arts and architecture.

After graduating, I spent another year at Kathy Kuo Home before moving back to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I grew up. Over the next decade, I worked at Ken Fulk, Landed Interiors, and Catherine Kwong Design. Those experiences gave me the opportunity to work on highly detailed, high-end residential projects and taught me so much of what I know today.

When my husband and I moved to Atlanta in 2025 for personal reasons, it felt like the right moment to take the leap and start my own studio. I had always thought about going out on my own, but as I built my career, I often questioned when—or whether—I would actually do it. Moving to a new city gave me the push I needed.

Today, I’m continuing to grow STUDIO TMK, with projects in Atlanta, New York City, and San Francisco. I hope to help people create spaces that feel personal to them and that they genuinely love coming home to.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a little over a year since I started my own studio, and it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Atlanta was a new city for me, so one of the biggest challenges has been rebuilding my local professional network in an industry that depends heavily on relationships and referrals.

There has also been a learning curve in going from being a designer at an established firm to being responsible for every part of the studio. I’m still a one-woman operation, so wearing every hat can be a lot, but I’ve also enjoyed stretching different parts of my brain and and learning the business side of running a studio.

I’m still very much in the process of figuring it out, but I’ve learned to be patient, trust the experience I already have, and keep showing up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
STUDIO TMK is a residential interior design studio focused on creating homes that feel personal and connected to the way each client actually lives. My approach is rooted in responding to the architectural history and character of a home rather than imposing a particular style onto it. I select materials and architectural details that feel appropriate to the space, while introducing furnishings that reflect the client’s personality and support the way they live day to day.

My experience working at established design firms over the past decade has shaped both the way I approach a project and the experience I want my clients to have. Anything involving a home is deeply personal, and the process can easily feel overwhelming. I want to make it more thoughtful, organized, and enjoyable while helping clients make decisions they feel confident about.

What sets my work apart is that I care just as much about how a home functions and feels as I do about how it looks. I’m most proud when a finished space feels considered and beautiful, but still clearly belongs to the people who live there.
