Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Mitrulescu.
Hi Mark, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with cars from a very young age, I even remember playing with hot wheels on my city layout rug and making up stories and episodes as I went. My parents bought me a Playstation 4 when I was 13 and I naturally began playing games like GTA 5 and Assetto Corsa. Since I was young and didn’t have money for a camera, I began taking pictures inside of any video game I could (mainly GTA 5). That’s when I really fell in love with photography. As time went on and I amassed a 10k+ following on Instagram for my video game photography, I decided to take my in-game skills into the real world. When I was 15, my parents bought me my first camera (Nikon D3400) for Christmas and then a Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 which I would use for the next four years. Since I was too young to drive, my mom would take me to car meets and shows. She really helped me become who I am today as she believed in me and my passions from a young age. I stepped away from photography and the car scene from the ages of 16-19 due to personal issues but then as the years passed by I fell more and more in love with the work I had once created. I returned to doing what I love in March of 2021 and I have never looked back since. With the help of my mom and the great friends I have made along the way, I was able to accomplish so many things and beat my fear and self-doubt for the most part. The journey is something I will always cherish.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Personally, photography and cars were always an escape for me. When life got rough, I would either hop on the game and make a new build or go outside and take as many photos as I could. It was an escape from the real world. In 6th grade, I began to feel very self-conscious and get bullied due to my appearance and different way of thinking. From the moment I began taking pictures, I felt like I was on top of the world. Like nothing could stop me. Very early on in my photography career, I dealt with a lot of self-doubt, fear, and anxiety. The “what ifs”, the negative comments, and the fear of not being good enough really got to my head. Which is part of the reason why I stepped away for so long.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional photographer and aspiring videographer. I am known for taking pictures primarily of cars but also anything I can fit inside of a frame. Something people don’t really know about me is that I am the Co-Founder of Entourage, a creative team that is looking to change the automotive scene for the better. I am most proud of myself for going out and being who I wanted to be all of these years but was too scared to be. I am also very proud of my work and even though I have a long way to go, I feel as though my work improves with every shoot I do. What sets me apart from others is that I focus more on longevity than the short-term gains. I strive to build mutually beneficial relationships with others that goes beyond photography and the car scene. I love meeting new people and learning everything I can from them so I can one day take the good I have learned and put it into practice. While others are focused on earning some money here and there, I am more focused on building long-lasting friendships and relationships that will help further my knowledge of my industry and life to where I will be able to become the most successful version of myself while helping people along the way.
What’s next?
My plans for the future revolve around videography and creating cinematic films centered around cars and the automotive industry. I hope to one day be able to get on the track at professional drift and race events and capture timeless moments with my camera. My next big step is to purchase a gimbal and begin my journey into the video world.
