Hidden Gems: Meet Nina Climes of Nimoja Novelties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Climes.

Hi Nina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my e-commerce business during the pandemic. With so much free time on my hands, I enrolled in an online build your own business (BYOB) course to learn how to start an online t-shirt business with little to no money. After completing the course and learning about the free and/or low-cost resources, I was motivated and ready to launch my new business! I created the name “Nimoja” as it is a combination of my middle name and my son and daughter’s first names. My family is my WHY and this business will leave a legacy of entrepreneurship, creativity, hustle, resilience, and wealth for generations to come!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As a small business owner, I proudly wear many hats as the designer, maker, promoter, accountant, marketer, organizer, manager and photographer. Being a business owner is not for the faint at heart as it takes dedication, persistence, prayer, patience, hard work, fortitude, and tenacity to run a successful business. My challenge as a small business is brand awareness. I am proud to be a part of Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator and my hope is that my induction into this inaugural program will increase awareness of Nimoja Novelties. Also, I was recently selected as a Virtual Entrepreneur Vendor for the Virtual Marketplace at the Essence Festival of Culture this summer! Lastly, I take advantage of resources provided by the Small Business Administration, attend professional development courses to hone my skills, and network with other entrepreneurs.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nimoja Novelties LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Nimoja Novelties is a trendy e-boutique for those who have dope style & love cool prints and designs with vivid colors. We create novelty designs that celebrate Black Excellence, Advocacy Causes, Pop Culture, Lifestyle, Hobbies, Professions, and much more! We can create whatever t-shirt, hoodie, hat, drinkware, or novelty item your heart desires.

What makes you happy?
Happiness is an inside job! You cannot put the keys to your happiness in anyone else’s pocket. For me, happiness is pursuing things that I am passionate about. As of late, my passion is crafting and designing more products at home and learning new product creation techniques. My self-care time, traveling, and spending time with my family make me happy as well. I encourage everyone to do more of what makes them happy because life is too short to be unhappy!
