Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Harchysen.
Hi Tessa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was born and raised in Minneapolis and was working in Special Education in 2018 when I started helping my great friend, super producer, WLPWR, handle some of his administrative and operational work for his production company and studio in Atlanta. I’ve always had a passion for music and music business. At one point in my life I studied to be an engineer, and many years ago was a studio manager, so this was an exciting opportunity for me to get back in the game and learn even more in the industry. I continued to grind from Minneapolis helping run the studio, building the label, and making regular trips to Atlanta. The brand continued to grow so much that I decided to take a huge leap of faith and move to Atlanta in 2019 to pursue this career full-time. It was a difficult decision leaving a career I was passionate about, but I believed in Will’s vision, the brand we were building, and I knew this was where I wanted to be. I never dreamed that a year later I would be running a label and recording studio in Atlanta.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been countless struggles along the way, but I view them as opportunities to continue to grow and learn. Every challenge is something that excites me and I remain grateful for them. Right before my move to Atlanta in 2019, I planned a huge showcase/block party at BNDWTH, during A3C, in less than 2 weeks, all from 1000 miles away. It was a huge challenge and one of the first moments of fear and doubt I had. I’ve had some event planning experience in the past, but this was on another level. The show was a huge success and still a proud moment and highlight on this journey.
This business is ever-changing and growing so it’s a constant struggle to adapt and remain relevant. Of course, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic was a huge blow to our small business, as it was for most, but being surrounded by entrepreneurs in this business pushes you to find new ways to hustle and be successful.
With a background in Education, and little in music business, it was a huge transition and struggle to learn this business, but I worked day and night, getting in more than my 10,000 hours. Now I find myself eating, sleeping, and breathing this business and wouldn’t have it any other way.
As you know, we’re big fans of BNDWTH. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
BNDWTH is a production house, recording studio and record label. Founded by our fearless leader WLPWR. We have an amazing facility here in East Point which houses 3 studios, content and office space, and more. We pride ourselves in providing incredible customer service, making clients comfortable and creating vibes to help artists reach their maximum potential. We specialize in making dope music! We have a fleet of producers, and offer services from booking a studio session, to helping an artist complete an entire album from start to finish. As a label our focus has always been on the lost art of artist development. We work with the best artist development coaches, choreographers, trainers, writers and more to take an artist to the next level. The energy is our building is unmatched and you feel the inspiration oozing in every room. If you’re an artist in Atlanta looking for a place to record, or in need of production or recording services, give us a call, you won’t be disappointed.
Brand-wise I am most proud of what we’ve been able to achieve on our own, what myself along with my team has been able to accomplish, and without the support of a major label, partnership, and funding everything on our own. We’ve been developing our flagship artist Josh Waters, for almost 3 years now. We are so proud of him and can’t wait for the world to know him. Be on the lookout for his latest single, a beautiful break-up classic, Cyclone, and look up to catch his billboard.
Watch out Atlana because BNDWTH is the next LaFace.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is getting to do what I love, with people I love, everyday. I’m so proud of everything I’ve accomplished and made happen in this crazy world of music. It makes me happy to have such an incredible squad of people around who motivate me to be great, and in-turn I want to do everything I can to make those around me great! It makes me happy to be under the guidance of such a selfless leader. WLPWR is a true visionary and the reason BNDWTH exists: built from the ground up, room-by-room, board-by-board. WLPWR inspires and pushes me daily.
