An Inspired Chat with Aquilla Smith of Atlanta

Aquilla Smith shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Aquilla, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel a powerful call to step into classrooms and auditoriums, looking into young eyes and planting seeds of truth about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and addiction. What once stirred fear in me now feels like a mission…Turning my voice into a shield, my story into a light, and my presence into hope for the next generation.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Aquilla Smith, “Dat Ninja Q” a visionary creator and storyteller whose life is a blend of artistry, resilience, and innovation. Through my company, Innovative Q LLC, I craft experiences and opportunities that fuse creativity with purpose…Where acting, writing, modeling, and empowerment collides. What makes my brand special is its heartbeat. A fearless commitment to originality, a passion for inspiring others, and a unique ability to transform ideas into unforgettable moments that leave a lasting impact.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I went five long months without pay due to work harassment I rang every bell there is in America—loud, desperate, and determined….Only to find the halls echoing back with silence. That emptiness taught me that the world isn’t always listening, and sometimes the only hands reaching to pull you up are the ones at the ends of your own arms.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped tucking my pain away like a secret and let it roar onto the page, turning the harassment I endured at work into my own fierce declaration. When the world wouldn’t help, my words became my weapon, my story transforming struggle into unstoppable strength.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes—the public me is unapologetically, unmistakably authentic.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think people might misunderstand my legacy, not seeing that The Most High moves through me regardless of my sexuality! He chooses the unexpected, the broken, the overlooked, to show his power and prove he is real.
