We recently had the chance to connect with Cole and Jerry Worley and Allen and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Cole and Jerry, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
We both work together, so a normal day for us is waking up, brushing our teeth while smiling in the mirror knowing we are about to see our best friend! There is so much joy radiating from both of our cheeks our families dont know what to think. We tell them “not everyone can be this lucky, so we must revel in it” Our families seem to ask us the same question every morning at about 7:11 AM…”How are you so happy about going to work?!” We answer with the same response. Every morning.”not everyone can be this lucky, so we must revel in it” It starts to get old. But its okay!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are cheese. We are Mid at best. We are any mothers instant disappointment. There is genuinely not 1 single reason why I could fathom anyone would listen to our heartfelt cries in the form of beautiful spacial audio. But to our surprise people do listen. Can you believe that? Songs from our bedroom that discuss our emotions are being streamed…we are quite literally probably the worst duo out there in the bane of existence. The sheer fact that you emailed us regarding an interview, is truly the greatest honor of my entire life. This is better than the participation trophy we both won together in kindergarten for not finishing the lap race with our legs tied around each other. But we enjoy ourselves truly. I mean I guess there probably are other duos that may be worse, (not in lap racing with legs tied to another. We are the best and being the worst at that) though I haven’t found them yet. We are both still looking for them..every day pretty much. Maybe this is a little piece of why we started Fallow. Just searching for someone worse than us and hopefully garnering assistance within the search.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Jerry-I would say that my earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I won the neighborhood battle of the century, duel of the Bakugons. The kids left crying, I left poweful.
I walked away feeling the most powerful with Isaacs legendary Bakugon Apollonir. He wept tears at the sight of his Bakugon rolling away. I slapped his tears away with pride and yelled “What would you expect from the greatest Bakugon Brawler??”
Cole- I would say that mine is when a kid from mys school just finished building his 1,000 pc lego set he received from Christmas. It was a boat. I had a bey-blade and I “LET IT RIP” towards his 1,000 pcs.(maybe on purpose, or maybe an accident) Lets just say his Boat was now in ash (broken lego pcs.)
Another time is when my brother ripped a DOPE charizard pokemon card that Would’ve probably gotten a PSA 10 from Becket, and I ripped it in half and put it into my gameboy saying “now I have a dragon”
I felt pretty powerful then, though it didnt give me a charizard in my pokemon game so it was very short lived.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Jerry- So there I was, standing in the back of a dingy club. Hands still covered in drum key grease and shame, when HE fired me. The 40 year old drummer, who insisted everyone call him “Thunder Steve” looked me dead in the eye and said “You dont touch a man’s last slice”
Apparently eating that lukewarm half-curled pepperoni slice from the band’s pizza box was THE unforgivable sin. Forget tuning his toms, forgetting tightening his snare….NO, it was the one single bite that ended my budding career as the most average drum tech in the Midwest.
I almost gave up right then. Almost walked out of music forever. But then I thought: If I can survive being fired over reheated cheese, maybe destiny has bigger plans.
So I dusted the crust crumbs off of my shirt, grabbed a pair of drumsticks from his bag and walked into the night like a warrior with nothing left to lose.
Cole- I remember being in Kindergarten. Sitting at my little kindergarten desk. Suddenly an urge hit me. I raised my hand and told the teacher I had to go “number 2 ” PRONTO. But she shook her head and said “nope, you will wait until after class” My stomach was twisting and I started wiggling in my little kindergarten chair. (you know the little colored ones with steel legs?) trying my hardest to hold it in. Minute by minute, it felt like a battle I was about to lose. I almost gave up, almost let it happen right there in my fruit of the looms. But somehow I found the strength to push through. The second class ended, I bolted straight to the bathroom. I made it just in time. I didnt give up that day and I didnt poop my pants.
That taught me a lot about resilience. “The day I almost pooped my pants but didnt”
Ill never forget that Mrs. Shelby. Thanks for building my character through a stomach ache!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
To answer this question. I must ask a question.
Have you ever had sugar cookies? Now have you ever had sugar cookies without sugar? Is it even still a sugar cookie?
This is my life. a constant revolving door of new ingredients, but the important part is not what you label me, but rather “how I taste”
The legacy of a sugar cookie is not dough, egg, butter, sugar, etc.
Though when I say sugar cookie, you know what it is. Think. Think.Think.
