An Inspired Chat with Kerri Bland of Hoover

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kerri Bland. Check out our conversation below.

Kerri, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up and have praise and worship. I believe in setting the tone for my day. I then text the people closest to me words of encouragement and let them know they are wonderful and chosen! Then off to start my work day!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am The Bridal Slayer! I assist brides with wedding gown shopping, deliver and put them in the gown, escort them to photos, and first look. Escort them to wedding and reception. I get them into their second look. I assist the bride the entire day of her wedding. I literally get married every weekend!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I was a senior in high school I received a prestigious award. The Bob Finley award was only presented to 30 senior students. There were 600 people in my class. I was a transfer from a different school system my 11th grade year. It was a slight struggle at first from going to 600 people in your school to 600 people in your class! The recipient of these awards had to be nominated by the staff and was given off your character! I was the only African American female to receive this award! At that moment I knew I could do anything! I felt unstoppable, powerful, and determined to always put my best foot forward!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failing has held me back from certain opportunities in my life. I had to go through a few trials in life to realize it’s OK to try and if you fail the first time KEEP GOING! God has not given us a spirit of fear, but the Lord has given us POWER! Power to push yourself, believe in yourself, and succeed!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I will not sell my soul for a dollar.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I want to be remembered for my spirit, my character, and spreading love to those around me. My purpose on earth is to help people, inspire, and spread God’s love.
