Today we’d like to introduce you to Buddy Jackson.
Hi Buddy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey!! my name is buddy and i’m a nyc brooklyn based violinist. i’ve been to many prestigious schools in nyc such as jazz at lincoln center, mannes prep, and julliard(for a few classes).
it got a little too easy for me and i told myself i didn’t want to be limited by anything so at 16 years old i left the professional side of it to pursue my own career.
a few years later i play at the top of the rock at rockefeller center. thank you for having me and i can’t wait for this interview!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
not at all!!! some of my biggest struggles was leaving home at 16 years old because of family issues. i went all the way to arizona to try and make a name and better life for myself.
i’ve been homeless on and off for about 2-3 years after that but as time went on me and my family’s relationship got better and im very grateful for that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional violinist! i love to bring people a sense of peace.
i’d say the one thing i specialize in is playing my violin on a moving subway train.
the thing im most proud of is i never gave up even when i felt like everything was against me.
i’d say what sets me apart from many other is my sense of compassion. id rather help someone else first than myself everytime
What were you like growing up?
very outgoing and bubbly!! always talking to everyone i could.
now im more reserved seeing how cruel the outside world can get
