Check Out Buku Abi’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Buku Abi.

Hi Buku , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been creating ever since I can remember. I grew up in a house full of creativity. It’s really all I know. When I was around 13 years old I decided to take music and my creativity seriously. I ended up joining and after school program called School Of Rock. We traveled around the mid-west doing shows and that’s when my love for performance really set in. I use to be really shy about singing but that experience made me realized how alive I felt on stage. From then on I just continued my journey as a creative. I eventually put out my first project when I was 19, titled “Don’t call me” Don’t go listen, it’s so old. lol. I Did various creative projects between visual arts, creating my own short documentary, did reality tv for a little bit and went to the art institute for visual arts.
I put out my second project “Cheers to you, shadow” in 2020, it was a rough time and I feel like that project was me getting all of that out. It was pretty successful in my eyes and blessed me with even more opportunity to grow. I honestly got to where I am today by not giving up and trusting God no matter how messy the process has been. Today, I’m working on my next project which I’m really excited about because it’s been about 4 years since I’ve released new music. I’ve grown so much and I’m excited for my audience to see what I’ve been working on.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? ahahah. Not at all. Honestly it’s been a lot harder than I could have ever imagined. I’ve made it through some days I had no Idea how I was gonna make it through. Almost everything under the sun. I think career wise it’s been a lot of learning in front of the world. I and my family have been in the public eye for a long time so growing up with so many opinions about who you and who the people you love are is a difficult thing to navigate. Even today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am singer/song writer/writer as well as visual artist. I just enjoy creating, I love the process of creating art. In front of the camera, or behind. On a cavas, or an iPad. I’ve explored so many different aspects of creating and I haven’t come across one I don’t enjoy yet. Photography, videography, film, music, recording, producing, painting, literally you name it.
How ever, I focus on singing, writing, and visual arts the most. In my beautiful world of delusion i’m known for my music. lol, if you know you know.
It’s a huge honor because It’s been a long time coming and I’ve been working o my own music since about 2017. I’m most proud of my courage to keep going, it’s been a long hard road and there’s still so much I want to accomplish. To go forward into the unknown is not something most are willing to do. I Thank God for the undeniable sense that music and being creative is what I was here to do.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I see myself comfortable, safe and living off being creative. I’m not really sure what is in store for me exactly, however, I do know being a full-time artist is written in the books. I’m praying I get to experience touring/opening for a bigger artist, selling out my first solo tour, attending a few major award shows, having my first solo art exhibition, I want to start a few of my creative businesses I have in mind. I could honestly keep going. There’s a lot I hope to accomplish in the next 5 years but so much is changing in the industry so you never know.. so … prayers up blessing downs!
