Check Out Georgette Young’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgette Young.

Hi Georgette , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started in 2017 when I moved from Cape Cod, MA to Atlanta, GA. During that time, I relocated due to my youngest sibling passing away and wanted a change of scenery. When I got to Atlanta, I was amazed by the culture and how the majority of people that I encountered pursued non-traditional jobs in fields like, music, art, sports, etc. Jobs that would likely be considered hobbies to the masses. This encouraged me to pursue things that I actually liked and music was on the top of my list! I did a typical Google search looking for studios that offered internships. I probably applied to five places and within the week, I got a call back from Means Street Studios; home of Dj Drama. Once I got accepted to do my internship there, that’s when my career in music began.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not! A smooth road would have been lovely. It was anything but smooth, but that is what made me who I am today. I am grateful for the entire process because it shaped me. Upon getting the internship, I was also working at Kroger and a single mother at the time. I was determined to make my internship work so I scheduled everything accordingly; even if it meant sacrificing sleep. I was going into work (Kroger) around 5:30/6am, getting off around 2/3pm, coming home being a mom and trying to get a couple hours of rest, then going to the studio around 7/8pm and not leaving until 1am some days; especially if I was covering someone else’s shift. The cycle would then repeat for the duration of my internship with a little leeway once I really showed my work ethic and that I was not playing about being there. I do want to highlight my family during that time for helping me with my son. They held it down even though they thought I was crazy at first.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Studio Manager for Human Re Sources; founded by J. Erving. Human Re Sources is a distribution company with label services. We are home to various artists such as, Raye, Jill Scott, Lancey Foux, Lakeyah, and more. When our artists or potential artists we want to partner with, need a place to record in Atlanta; I would provide that space for them. I am most proud of my journey. Things haven’t always been like this for me. I come from humble beginnings. I can remember watching my dad; as a single father get my siblings and I ready for school in the morning and doing it with grace. His work ethic molded me into the person I am today. I never saw him quit and I wanted to be just like that! I can say so much that sets me apart from others but the main thing that I would say that truly sets me apart is my ambition and determination to create the life I want! Nothing can stop me.

The Bible App on my phone is crucial for me! Every time I get a notification from it, I make sure to take the time to read the scripture. A lot of times it recenters my mood or even my day.
