Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Williams.
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Mpressions Boutique in 2007 as an extension of something that had always been a part of me—my love for fashion, creativity, individuality, and the way personal style can make someone feel confident in who they are. At the time, I was already building a professional career in technology as a software engineer, but Mpressions Boutique became my first real opportunity to create something that was completely my own. It was my flagship introduction to entrepreneurship and, in many ways, the beginning of learning how to build and define my own brand.
Creativity has never existed in just one lane for me. I have always been someone who enjoys creating, whether that means working with fashion and accessories, writing, developing ideas, solving problems through technology, or eventually becoming an author. Over the years, I came to understand that I did not have to choose only one part of myself. I could be a software professional, an entrepreneur, a writer, and a creative person at the same time. Each of those experiences has shaped the others.
A great deal of that confidence came from my mother. She had a tremendous influence on the way I learned to embrace creativity and pursue the things that genuinely interested me. She encouraged me to use the gifts I had been given rather than place limitations on myself. Her strength, encouragement, and belief in me became part of the foundation I carried into adulthood. Even as my interests expanded into different areas, that lesson remained the same: create, keep growing, and never be afraid to explore another side of yourself.
Mpressions Boutique has now been part of my journey for nearly two decades, and I am proud of what it represents. It was the first business that taught me what it meant to take an idea from my imagination and put my name behind it. Since then, my creative journey has grown to include authorship and publishing, while my career in technology has continued to strengthen the analytical and disciplined side of who I am.
When I look at where I am today, I do not really see these as separate chapters. They are all connected. Mpressions Boutique was the beginning of me understanding that my creativity could become something tangible, something I could share with other people, and something I could build upon. That realization has followed me into everything I have created since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance entrepreneurship with a demanding professional career. I have spent many years working in technology while also growing Mpressions Boutique, so there were times when I had to be extremely intentional about how I used my time, energy, and creativity.
Another challenge has been learning how to evolve. I started Mpressions Boutique in 2007, and the retail and online shopping landscape has changed tremendously since then. Social media, e-commerce, customer expectations, marketing, and even the way people discover brands have all continued to shift. Staying relevant has meant being willing to learn, adjust, and sometimes completely rethink how I approach the business while still remaining true to the original vision.
Like many entrepreneurs, I have also had to navigate periods when business was slower than I wanted it to be, ideas did not always work the way I imagined, or life itself required more of my attention. Those moments taught me that entrepreneurship is not only about creativity. It also requires patience, discipline, resilience, and the willingness to keep going when the results are not immediate.
One of the most important lessons I have learned is not to measure my journey against someone else’s timeline. Mpressions Boutique has been part of my life for many years, and during that time I have continued to grow professionally and creatively in other areas as well. I became an author, expanded into publishing, and continued building my career in technology. There were times when I questioned whether I was trying to do too many things, but eventually I realized that all of those experiences are simply different expressions of who I am.
I also learned a great deal about perseverance from my mother. She had a way of reminding me, sometimes without even having to say much, that setbacks do not have to define you. You keep moving, you learn from what happened, and you continue to use the gifts you have been given.
So no, the road has not always been smooth, but I am actually grateful for that. The challenges have made me more adaptable, more confident in my decisions, and much clearer about the kind of entrepreneur and creative person I want to be.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mpressions Boutique?
Mpressions Boutique is an online fashion and accessories boutique that I founded in 2007 out of a genuine love for style, creativity, and individuality. From the beginning, I wanted the brand to be about more than simply selling accessories. I wanted it to help people express themselves, feel confident, and add something distinctive to their personal style.
What sets Mpressions Boutique apart for me is the personal connection behind the brand. I have always been drawn to pieces that feel expressive, stylish, and memorable rather than ordinary. My goal has been to offer accessories that allow someone to make a statement while still feeling like themselves.
I am especially proud that Mpressions Boutique has remained part of my entrepreneurial journey for nearly two decades. The business has grown and evolved alongside me, and it has taught me a tremendous amount about branding, customer service, adaptability, and perseverance. It was also my first major step into entrepreneurship and gave me the confidence to eventually expand my creativity into other areas, including writing and publishing.
My professional life has always blended creativity with structure. In addition to being an entrepreneur, I have built a career in technology and am also an author. Those worlds may seem very different, but they all reflect the same part of me: I enjoy creating, solving problems, developing ideas, and turning something that begins as a vision into something tangible.
More than anything, I want readers to know that Mpressions Boutique represents freedom of expression. Fashion does not have to be complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes the right accessory, the right detail, or simply the confidence to wear something you love can completely change how you carry yourself. That sense of individuality and confidence has always been at the heart of the brand.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have never viewed risk-taking as simply jumping into something without thinking. For me, the best risks are calculated ones—decisions that may feel uncomfortable or uncertain, but are still grounded in purpose, preparation, and belief in what you are trying to build.
Starting Mpressions Boutique in 2007 was one of those risks. I had a stable professional career in technology, so there was no requirement for me to step into entrepreneurship. I did it because there was a creative part of me that needed an outlet and because I wanted to prove to myself that I could take an idea, build a brand around it, and create something that belonged to me.
Over the years, I have taken other risks by allowing myself to grow beyond one identity. It would have been easy to remain only in the technology space, but I continued to explore fashion, entrepreneurship, writing, and eventually authorship and publishing. Each move required me to be willing to be a beginner again, to learn something new, and to accept that success might not happen immediately.
I think one of the greatest risks we can take is allowing fear to convince us that we should stay exactly where we are. There is comfort in what is familiar, but there can also be limitation there. I have learned that growth often requires being willing to step into a space where you do not have every answer yet.
At the same time, I believe risk should have wisdom behind it. My career in technology has probably influenced that part of me. I naturally evaluate, analyze, and think through possibilities before making major decisions. So I would not describe myself as impulsive, but I am willing to bet on myself when I believe strongly enough in the vision.
Some risks work exactly as you hope, and others become lessons. I have come to appreciate both. Either way, you gain something—experience, clarity, confidence, or a better understanding of what you should do next.
