Community Highlights: Meet Payal Sud of Ps.S. It’s Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Payal Sud.

Hi Payal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am the child of immigrant parents from India. I chose to become a social worker despite my culture and my parents’ wanting.
In 2012, I started my own private practice for mental health. I help marginalized individuals, including Medicaid recipients. My business did well for itself.
In 2025, I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. I have been cleared of cancer but now have to live a different lifestyle including changing my business structure and how I am as a therapist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a difficult journey.
I have had to fight my culture and its beliefs.
I have also had to acclimate to living with a iliostomy bag, a smaller stomach, a person with a disability, etc.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
P.S. It’s Counseling is a mental health private practice. It helps marginalized communities including receipents of medicaid, LGBTQ+, people of color, BDSM and non monogamous relationships. We prioritize mental health vs seeing it as a privilege. We offer holistic services, sliding scale, free services and more.

What’s next?
I am still figuring that out.
