Conversations with Akor Ogwuche

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akor Ogwuche.

Hi Akor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey, lol how do these usually start.
But yeah, it’s my pleasure to tell you my story so far, matter of fact, this is going to make a good episode to document for my series “300 new experiences at 30”, as my first official interview in general and as a magazine feature as well.

Okay then, what’s up Voyage? Thanks for having me, my name is Akor Ogwuche, but y’all already know that haha! My friends call me Ak, and I’m Nigerian.
It’s exciting getting some recognition and being asked to share my story, you know? It means I’m creating impact enough to inspire some people around the world.

I just realized today marks a year and 20 days since I started creating content to document my life, and spend the year discovering the world around me, leaving my comfort zone, and becoming the person I want to truly be.
This is my first time really reflecting on it, so my thoughts might be a bit raw. I can tell you for free though, my journey through the year has been everything from humbling, super exciting, inspiring, stressful, scary, eye-opening, and a whole lot of growth along the way.
These experiences are teaching me about myself, and I try to help others reflect on their own lives through what I’m learning, exploring, and experiencing.

About a year ago, sometime after my birthday around April – August, 2025, was when I started feeling an intense uneasiness and urge to change my fucking life (excuse my cursing), because for a long time I have been living life on a ‘not actually living mode’, where I didn’t do the things I needed to do, I wasn’t pushing myself to become the best version of myself, living life doing the same things on repeat every other year, not experiencing the beautiful things around me, and not locking in and using all the information I believe I have on so many ways to become a better person and live a way better life than I was living at the time.

August, 2025, was when I decided to say fuck it, I’m going to change my life, and document every bit of it, inspire people, and create content and a personal brand.
It’s funny because I would never have thought I could be in front of the camera or create content with face. I’m a video producer and a great editor, if I do say so myself, so I’m usually behind the camera producing various types of content and visuals and always fought the idea of being at the other end of the lens, cause lowkey believed I was camera shy amongst other things.
Even my Dad once told me to think about it, and went on about there not being anything to be camera shy about and how he never thought a whole me could feel that, and how if other people can do it, so can I you know? Back then, I shut the idea down cause of how I already felt about the whole thing and also the obvious fear of being seen disguised as camera shy, while he believed that the man he raised can do anything he wants.

January 2025, was the year I went independent, and began my freelancing journey, where I provided creative production and video editing services. The previous year, I was working with one of the most important digital media houses in the country called ‘gst’. My time there taught me a lot about the creative space, telling compelling stories visually, and made me a great video producer.
By my birthday in April 2025, I turned 29, and you know how you start to feel when you’re turning older or nearing your 30’s? Exactly, that was me. I started to self-reflect and understand my life and activities thoroughly.
By August 2025, one random day I got out of bed in the morning, drove down to my former work place ‘Gatefield Ltd/‘gst’, and met with two of my former colleagues and good friends. I told them how I was fed up living a mediocre life and I needed to do more. I needed to see some change, and get out my comfort zone and experience new things happening around me and how I’m 30 now, and I’ve been feeling a sense of emptiness and a new purpose burning within me. We all spoke and came up with the idea of doing 300 new experiences at 30, and work towards changing my life and re-discovering, and documenting it on social media.
It’s been a year since this idea came to inception and the journey started. I have to say I expected it to be easy just cause of the motivation I had when I started and the imaginations dancing around in my head back when it all started. The hopes of hitting vitality very early on from the first video I dropped as an introduction into the journey, which later did a lil 12K views, and also from the idea and content I drop. I quickly found out it doesn’t always work like that especially if you aren’t as consistent with your goals as you should be.
It was a tough year between August, 2025, and April 2026, which was the timeline to achieve the new journey I embarked on. I worked on myself and becoming a more discipline, healthy, hardworking and happy version of myself. So many times I fell back into habits I constantly try to stop, many times where I loose the will to do the work, create, and be a better me.
I quickly learned motivation isn’t everything but rather mastering the act of doing the things you know you need to do and saying no to the things you desperately want to do.
I failed so many times, I had to learn to pick myself back up, fail many times and most importantly learn the lessons every step of the way. Today I run, gym, do the fucking work and constantly try to be the best version of myself and most importantly for me at this stage, I try to focus heavily on growing as a creator while inspiring others to take the most important leap of life and destroy the old versions of themselves if they want to truly change their lives.
My story is still being told and I am building my life a day at a time, intentionally and I can’t wait to see what life holds for me in the next 5 years and the people I can inspire along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha! Smooth road is the last thing on my mind. You know how during the beginning of a journey, or learning a new skill and the sorts, you tend to be very bad at what you’re doing. That is exactly how creating and documenting my content as a complete beginner- and for the first time I’ll be uttering these words, a new ‘content creator’, has been so far. I love to identify as just a creator though, haha. Anyway, I have grown tired and lost inspiration so many times, I have struggled to stay consistent, I have doubted myself, and I have compared myself to other creators.
All of these have been one struggle or the other I have experienced during my journey, and in some way they have held me back from seeing results and reaching my goals.
Eventually after failing over and over again, pushing myself to do the work even when I don’t feel like, testing new ideas, overcoming fears, learning and growing from all these experiences I have been through, has taught and still is teaching me lessons that could last a lifetime. I am beginning to have a true an understanding of how to close the gap between knowing and doing, how to build a brand, and how to navigate certain situations with an open and positive mindset. I am also learning how to become a better storyteller, and creator.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For work, and something I am deeply passionate about is being a creative video producer, editor. I bring stories to life through captivating visuals and innovative storytelling. I just love creating engaging content that drives impact.
My specialty spans all stages of video production, from ideation to production down to post-production.
Currently I work independently and provide freelance services in content strategy, creative direction, and video editing for both short-form and long-form content for social media brands and creators as well.
Recently I began my content creation journey, so I guess this will start to count as work soon, as I want to go fully into content, specialize in it and eventually build more brands and businesses off my experience from building my personal brand.
I’m proud of myself for taking this bold step, stepping out my comfort zone and overcoming the fear of being seen and building my personal brand.
My audacity, open-mindedness, willingness to change, analyze my thoughts, take risks and all round self-awareness and is something I believe sets me apart from others.
