Conversations with Destiny Singleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Singleton.

Hi Destiny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Destiny Singleton, my journey into graphic design started unexpectedly in 2019 while I was still in high school. At the time, I was working part time at Macy’s, completing an internship through a tech program, and also pursuing freelance makeup artistry. During my internship, one of my instructors knew that I was a makeup artist and offered me the opportunity to use Adobe Photoshop. He encouraged me to learn graphic design as another way to expand my creativity and generate additional income within the beauty industry.

I took his advice and began teaching myself Photoshop and exploring the world of digital design. I started by creating logos for mutuals within the beauty community, then gradually expanded into flyers and eventually website design. What began as simply another way to make money alongside makeup artistry unexpectedly grew into something much bigger.

As more people began reaching out for my work, I realized that graphic design had become more than just an additional service, it was something I genuinely loved. I developed such a strong passion for creating and discovering the endless possibilities of digital art that I eventually stepped away from freelance makeup artistry completely and devoted myself to graphic design. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful that something I never originally planned for became the career and creative path I was meant to pursue.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some challenges that i’ve encountered during my career was when I would be so excited to have a client that I confidently felt I secured but never booked, it used to mess with my confidence with how I show up for my business. But that mindset has shifted tremendously, now I take it as a sign of thankfulness, you’ve considered me being someone to even work with. Understanding you wont always be chosen and accepting it for what it is.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in upscale, minimal, and polished brand development and website design. While I primarily work with businesses within the beauty industry, my work is not limited to one niche, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with brands across different industries as well. Over the years, I’ve become especially known for my polished logo development, cohesive branding, and elevated website designs.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the growth I’ve made within my creative direction and the way my approach to branding has continued to evolve throughout my career. I’m very intentional with every project, and I take pride in researching each brand, its audience, and its industry before developing the visual direction. I never want a client’s brand to simply look good. I want it to feel intentional, memorable, and aligned with who they are.

What sets me apart is the level of thought and strategy I put behind the design. My goal is always to create branding that feels authentic to my client while also helping them stand apart from others within their industry. I believe strong branding should not only be visually appealing, but should also communicate a clear story, create an experience, and leave a lasting impression.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve always taken risks throughout my career because I’ve always been willing to bet on myself and the work that I create. There have been many times when I’ve reached out to people I wanted the opportunity to work with, introduced myself, presented my work, and simply took the chance. Not every opportunity is going to come directly to you, and I’ve learned that sometimes you have to create those opportunities for yourself.

I believe taking risks is a major part of growth. You can’t always sit back and wait for someone to notice you or invite you into a certain space. Sometimes you have to speak up, advocate for yourself, and intentionally put yourself in the rooms where you want to be seen and heard. Even when you don’t know what the outcome will be, having the confidence to take that chance can open doors you may have never expected.
