Conversations with Max Carballo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Carballo.

Hi Max, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My career began during the technological transition from analog prepress to the digital age, collaborating with environments that had critical image infrastructure, such as newspapers, publishing houses, and international agencies. In this context, I developed extensive creativity in image production, color management, and demanding editorial production processes. My vision transforms architecture and interior design into aesthetic experiences that transcend the documentary. Through the fusion of different photographic languages and digital editing, I explored the boundaries between reality and imagination, constructing visual narratives with a distinctly poetic approach. In my opinion this is what my collectors like about my artwork full of creativeness and constant experimentation

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Mexico is a hard place to produce art. In my personal experience and as an artist who don’t follow the circuit of galleries art curators and trends. Your work most of the time is sponsored by your own and at some point with collaborations is where your art has some visibility. Although I enjoy this “underground” period my work is focused on creation and I let the final artwork talk to the audience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As my work began in the analog photography and the new prepress technology equipment that enters a new digital dimension, my goal was always images that generate a discourse of how photography is being transformed. The editing software like Adobe Photoshop is my tool to transform reality and constantly improve the final result. I still shot film, scan and print though technology helps to finish analogue processes instantly experiencing firsthand the nature of photography gives me that experience in knowing how to find the final result of my work and that translates into unique pieces “museum quality” the market appreciates.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
At this part of my life I’m finishing my first pdf photo book, a retrospective about my work from year 2000 to this day. I’m looking for a publisher sponsor for printing this book. This will bring visibility to my work at first place to find collectors and galleries for future art selling.
