COUP’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with COUP and have shared our conversation below.

COUP, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
running & hooping. work can easily become stressful with the amount of hours & attention that i pour into it. adding in 3-4 days of cardio or exercise into my week feels like a mental reset after every session.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
COUP: a multi-disciplinary creative with a passion for blending art, design, and storytelling. With a background in graphic design, photography & videography, I have developed an eye for crafting visually compelling narratives across various mediums. Whether I’m conceptualizing a brand identity, styling a fashion shoot, or designing a set for a photo or video project, my work is driven by a deep love for both the creative process and the technical craft behind each piece. I bring a unique perspective to everything i create. My goal is to continue creating works that inspire, engage, and leave a lasting impression.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
After i dropped my first manufactured piece in 2021. The time, effort, and attention to detail that went into creating my varsity jacket was all fueled by my passion to create something great. The results after should have been, but was not at all anticipated. The demand for the product was more than i expected i had to release it twice. Sold out on my site, sold out at my pop-up, and sold out on the restock. This gave me the momentum i needed to keep going & going. I haven’t second guessed myself since.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I feel like we are put in a place of lack or not enough to shift our focus on God. Even though i am a believer that God never leaves nor forsakes his children. There was a period where i felt i was lacking heavily. i had to change my perspective. I transformed my situation from the inside out starting with my mind, then my body, & implementing new habits. i ran 3 miles a day an haven’t stopped running or been in the same situation since. I thank God for that period where i couldn’t connect the dots because i wouldn’t be who i am today. I wouldn’t have what i’ve worked for today. I wouldn’t appreciate the small things.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
That i will create works that will inspire eyes across the globe. Just by words i cannot prove this. You just have to watch and see.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I feel like this is the point im at right now. Since i first started my brand i feel the appreciation for my work has decreased while the quality has increased. I never created for anyone other than God and myself. The support i receive is a blessing but i don’t live for it. People are programmable and tend to follow. If i spend my whole career trying to be loved by the world i’ll lose myself.
