Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexi Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexi Torres.

Hi Alexi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Bermeja a small village in the province of Matanzas, Cuba. I graduated from The National School of Art in Havana Cuba in 1995. In 2003 I immigrated to the USA, making Atlanta my new home. Art have always being everything to me, Now I have a large studio on Chattahoochee Ave where I work almost everyday.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The strangles are also blessing to be where I am today, I called them necessary bumpers on the road of life. No need to revisit them,

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am mostly a painter, but I make sculptures, objects and embroideries as well. I am known for my basquet weaving style of large format paintings. I am most proud of my family and my work ethic. I think what sets me apart from others artist in Atlanta is the large scale artworks, the incredible embroideries made at the studio.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Collectors and Art galleries, Spiritual teacher have shaped the meaning of my creations, My dear father for being so supportive of me when i was a kid and I wanted to go to art school in a place where that was unheard. My beautiful and great artist Julie Torres. And The USA for the freedom it gave all of us to pursuit our dreams.
