Today we’d like to introduce you to Dillan Gassmann.
Hi Dillan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Me (Dillan, drummer) and pierce (lead vocalist and guitarist) started back in 2021, our freshmen year of high school, wanting to write music and start a band. Sophomore was when we met Jasin in our guitar class and we finally were able to start writing some songs. We then found marques along the way and we had him hop on bass because we had a school talent show that we wanted to participate in. We ended up doing a cover of Vicious Cycle by Slackjaw and we got 2nd place. After that Jasin had to leave for college and so we were looking for a new guitar player. A good friend of mine (Jonnie) came into the picture and we started jamming with him and he played our first gig with us at The Murph. He then also had life to deal with and we were again looking for a second guitarist which quickly became Chris, who we have now. We’ve played at Lofi Coffee Bar, Pizza Verdura Sincera, Reverb Room, Mayhem House, and many more amazing venues.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’ve definitely encountered some difficulties along the way. Keeping/finding members was a struggling a couple few times, and me and pierce worked on finishing the album as soon as we could while also not pumping out hot garbage. We’ve had issues with recording software, mics, interfaces, you name it. If one thing starts working another thing blows up. The second time we went to Lofi Coffee Bar that actually did happen to us. we finally spent our band funds to get marques a decent bass rig. We got the 8×10 fridge, and a Kustom head along with a PA amp all for pretty cheap. But at that show we apparently also brought along a smoke machine because the PA amp we were using for marques almost blew up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a local metalgaze band from metro Atlanta trying to write and produce music that we enjoy listening to and that we’re proud of. I would say we have a pretty unique sound that sets us apart from a lot of other bands, and we have a very wide variety of styles of songs as well. We love what we are able to do and we love and appreciate the community we have built and are proud with how far we’ve come as a band together.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We get a lot of our influence from bands like Gojira, Mastodon, Slackjaw, and River of Nihil just to name a few. We like to add a lot of atmospheric stuff that Rivers of Nihil has, in our opinion, perfected. A lot of the drum parts that are written are heavily influenced by Mario Duplantier and Brann Dailor. A lot of local bands like Terminal Severance, Hate spawn slime, and Callous have been a huge help for us getting us shows and being all around awesome guys. We would not have the following we do without these legends.
