Today we’d like to introduce you to Parris Monet & Velma Rae.
Hi Parris Monet & Velma Rae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story really started in college, where we met and connected through our shared love for music and creativity. Over the years, our friendship grew into a genuine sisterhood, but we also found ways to work together professionally. At one point, I managed her PR while she was pursuing music, so we learned early on how to balance friendship with business and how to support each other’s individual goals.
As life evolved, so did we. We went through different seasons—careers, relationships, motherhood, personal growth—and realized that the conversations we were having as best friends were the same conversations so many other women could relate to. That’s what eventually inspired us to start our podcast.
The podcast gave us an opportunity to branch into a completely different avenue while still doing something that came naturally to us: talking, laughing, sharing our experiences, and being ourselves. What started as two college best friends working together in music has grown into a platform where we can share our perspectives, our friendship, and the lessons we’ve picked up along the way.
It really feels like a full-circle moment. We’ve grown individually, we’ve grown together, and now we get to bring people along for the journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of our biggest challenges has simply been navigating life while trying to stay consistent with something we both believe in. We’ve gone from being college students working together in music to becoming women with careers, families, responsibilities, and completely different schedules. Finding the time and energy to pour into the podcast while balancing everything else can be difficult.
There’s also a unique challenge that comes with building something with your best friend. You have to learn how to separate friendship from business, communicate honestly, respect each other’s ideas, and understand that you may not always agree. Thankfully, our friendship has always been bigger than any disagreement.
We’ve also had to learn as we go. Starting a podcast sounds simple until you realize how much goes into creating content, staying consistent, growing an audience, promoting yourselves, and figuring out what makes your platform unique.
But I think those challenges have actually helped shape us. We’ve learned not to compare our journey to anyone else’s and to give ourselves grace when life requires us to slow down. At the end of the day, we started this because we genuinely enjoy creating together, and no matter how much life changes, that foundation has remained the same.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the heart of what we do is create a space where real friendship, real life, and real conversations can exist without everything feeling overly polished or scripted. Our podcast is centered around the conversations we naturally have as best friends—relationships, motherhood, personal growth, careers, friendships, pop culture, and all of the experiences that come with navigating life as women.
What sets us apart is our history and our chemistry. We didn’t meet because we wanted to start a podcast—we were best friends first. We met in college, worked together in the music industry, and have experienced so many different seasons of life together. That history allows us to be honest with each other, disagree with each other, laugh at ourselves, and have conversations that feel authentic because they genuinely are.
I think we’re known for being relatable and unapologetically ourselves. We can have a serious conversation one minute and be laughing uncontrollably the next, and that’s a true reflection of our friendship.
What I’m most proud of is that we continue to find new ways to create together. We started in music, transitioned into podcasting, and we’re still evolving. The fact that our friendship has been able to grow alongside our individual lives while still giving us a foundation to build something together is something I’m extremely proud of.
Ultimately, we aren’t trying to present ourselves as having everything figured out. We’re inviting people into the conversation as we figure it out too—and I think that authenticity is what makes what we’re building special.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re really excited about what the future holds because we feel like we’re entering a season of expansion. The podcast is something we want to continue growing, but we’re also looking beyond it and exploring different business ventures that allow us to tap into our individual talents.
Velma is an amazing cook, she has a vision for ways she can turn her passion for food into something bigger and create opportunities around what she naturally does so well. For me, I’m interested in getting back into public relations. PR was something I genuinely enjoyed when I worked with Velma during our music days, and now I’m excited about revisiting it with more life experience, stronger business instincts, and a clearer vision of what I could build.
We’re also open to opportunities that we may not have even imagined yet. One thing about us is that we’ve never been afraid to evolve. Music was one chapter, podcasting became another, and entrepreneurship feels like a natural next step.
More than anything, we’re looking forward to building something that creates longevity—not only for ourselves individually, but potentially for our families as well. We want to continue growing the podcast, expanding our brands, supporting each other’s businesses, and seeing just how far our creativity and friendship can take us.
