Hi Ebony Inez, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing a stable income and career growth. If I stopped, I’d have to adjust quickly, but it might also give me the chance to find work that better suits me in the long term.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Ebony, founder of Ebony I. Extensions. Our mission, “Extensions for Every Expression,” is all about empowering you to celebrate your uniqueness. From stylish headbands and headwear wigs to wrap ponytails in a variety of textures, plus stunning strip lashes and accessories, we’ve got everything to help you express yourself beautifully. I’m passionate about growing our seasonal collections and fostering a vibrant community of beauty lovers. Embrace your individuality with us!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I remember feeling powerful in fifth grade when I started my own little business making handmade bookmarks. Seeing my creations encourage other students to read showed me that my ideas and efforts could make a real impact—an early lesson in entrepreneurship and influence that has stayed with me ever since.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time when I almost gave up after cosmetology school didn’t work out. I felt very discouraged and stepped away from the beauty industry entirely. Over time, I took the opportunity to pray and give myself space to regroup. Eventually, I found the encouragement to rediscover my passion and re-engage with the industry.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
For me, resilience is a cultural value I fiercely protect. It’s about persevering through challenges, learning from setbacks, and showing the next generation that obstacles are just part of the journey, not the end.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m finally doing what I was born to do. Building Ebony I. Extensions lets me combine creativity, entrepreneurship, and empowerment in a way that feels authentic—something I couldn’t have achieved by simply following someone else’s path.
