Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeae Lynch.
Hi Jeae, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have loved cooking for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I enjoyed creating new dishes for my friends and family. Cooking has always been more than just preparing food for me it has been a way to bring people together, make them happy, and share a part of who I am.
I moved to the United States in 2004 after getting married, carrying with me a dream that one day I would have the opportunity to introduce authentic Thai food and Thai culture to more people. Thailand has so much to share — our food, traditions, art, beautiful destinations, and especially the warmth and friendliness of our people. Thailand is known as the “Land of Smiles,” and I have always wanted my restaurant to reflect that same feeling of hospitality.
Life in America, however, was not always easy. In Thailand, I had family around me who could help and support me. After living in the U.S. for about two years, I went through a divorce and became a single mother raising two young children. Starting over in another country while caring for my children was one of the most difficult periods of my life.
At the same time, I was very fortunate to meet wonderful friends and people in my community who supported and encouraged me. Because of my circumstances, I had to put my dream of owning a restaurant aside for a while. But I never gave up on it.
I continued working in restaurants and learning everything I could about the business. In the back of my mind, I always told myself, “One day, I will have my own restaurant.”
That opportunity finally came in 2013 when I opened my first restaurant.
When the opportunity arrived, I gave it everything I had because I knew how long I had waited for that moment. I worked every day, often 11 to 13 hours a day, with very few days off for years. It was exhausting, but at the same time, I was happy because I was finally doing what I loved.
Charm Thai Cuisine is located in Peachtree City, a unique and beautiful community south of Atlanta and about 30 minutes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The people here are friendly, welcoming, and incredibly supportive. From the beginning, Charm received tremendous support not only from Peachtree City residents but also from customers in surrounding communities.
Life always brings unexpected events. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo major surgery. I felt very fortunate and grateful that my employees all came together to take care of the restaurant for two months while I was unable to manage it.
After approximately 13 years, we made the decision to relocate Charm Thai Cuisine while remaining in Peachtree City. With the new restaurant, I finally had the opportunity to share much more than Thai food — I could also introduce our guests to Thai art, craftsmanship, and culture.
Thailand is well known for its beautiful handmade wood carvings and high-quality teak. For our new location, we imported very unique, handcrafted wood carvings from Thailand. Some of these pieces took artisans nearly a year to complete. They are not simply decorations to me; they represent the skill, patience, history, and beauty of Thai craftsmanship.
We were also fortunate to work with a talented Thai artist and university art professor one of Thailand’s respected institutions for art. We commissioned a large original canvas painting inspired by traditional Thai temples and architecture, which was then sent from Thailand to become part of the restaurant.
The new Charm took about a year to create. Every detail was important to me because I wanted guests to feel that they were experiencing a small piece of Thailand from the moment they walked through the door.
When we reopened, our community welcomed us back once again with incredible support. Seeing longtime customers return, meeting new guests, and hearing people say how happy they were to have Charm back was very emotional and rewarding for me.
Over the years, customers from nearby cities have often asked, “When are you going to open a Charm in our city?”
Now, after relocating and establishing our new Peachtree City location, we finally feel ready for the next chapter. We are preparing to expand Charm Thai Cuisine into neighboring communities, with our second location planned for Newnan.
Friends sometimes ask me, “You already work at Charm every day. If you open another location, how are you going to manage two restaurants?”
I always joke with them, “That’s easy — I’ll just work 14 days a week instead of seven.”
But behind the joke is something I truly believe: when you are doing something you genuinely love, the long hours and sacrifices have a different meaning.
Building Charm has required years of hard work, patience, sacrifice, and perseverance. There were many times when things were difficult, but seeing what Charm has become makes it worthwhile.
For me, success is not only measured by sales or how many locations we have. It is seeing families celebrate birthdays and anniversaries in our restaurant, watching customers become friends, seeing my employees grow, and being able to share the food, art, hospitality, and culture of Thailand with our community.
I started with a simple dream of owning a Thai restaurant and sharing a little piece of Thailand with others. Today, seeing Charm Thai Cuisine continue to grow — and knowing that we are only beginning our next chapter — brings me tremendous happiness and gratitude.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I have faced many challenges along the way, both personally and professionally.
One of my biggest challenges came very early in my life in America. After moving here from Thailand, I went through a divorce and suddenly found myself raising two young children as a single mother in a country far away from my family. I had to learn how to support my children, adjust to a different culture, and build a new life at the same time. Because of this, I had to put my dream of owning a restaurant on hold for several years.
When I finally opened my first restaurant in 2013, a different kind of challenge began. Owning a restaurant requires much more than knowing how to cook. I had to learn every part of the business — managing employees, controlling costs, customer service, marketing, maintenance, and solving unexpected problems every day. In the beginning, I worked 11 to 13 hours a day, almost every day, for years.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that owning a business means there is always another challenge waiting for you. Sometimes it is financial, sometimes it is staffing, sometimes equipment breaks, and sometimes circumstances completely outside of your control change your plans.
Relocating Charm Thai Cuisine after approximately 13 years was another major challenge. Creating our new location took about a year and required an enormous amount of patience, time, financial investment, and attention to detail. There were many delays and unexpected obstacles during the process. At times, it was stressful and difficult, but I kept reminding myself of the vision I had for Charm and why I started this journey in the first place.
Through all of these experiences, I learned that challenges do not necessarily mean you are on the wrong path. Sometimes they are simply part of building something meaningful.
I believe perseverance has been one of the most important parts of my journey. I cannot control every situation, but I can control whether I keep moving forward. When something does not work, I try to find another solution rather than give up.
Looking back, some of the hardest moments have also taught me the most. They made me stronger, more patient, and more appreciative of every opportunity and every person who has supported Charm along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Charm Thai Cuisine is more than just a restaurant to me — it is a place where I can share the food, culture, art, and hospitality of Thailand with our community.
We specialize in authentic Thai cuisine prepared with care, using traditional flavors while also creating a dining experience that feels warm, welcoming, and memorable. Our goal has always been for guests to experience more than a meal. I want them to feel a little bit of Thailand from the moment they walk through our doors.
What truly sets Charm apart is the attention we put into both the food and the atmosphere. Our new Peachtree City location features unique handmade teak wood carvings imported from Thailand, including pieces that took artisans many months to complete. We also have a large original painting inspired by traditional Thai temples and architecture, created especially for our restaurant by a Thai artist. These pieces allow us to showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of Thailand in a way that goes beyond the menu.
Hospitality is also a very important part of our brand. Thailand is known as the “Land of Smiles,” and I want Charm to represent that same warmth. Over the years, many of our customers have become more like friends and family. We have had the privilege of watching families celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and other special moments with us.
One of the things I am most proud of is the relationship Charm has built with the Peachtree City community. The support we have received over the years, and especially when we relocated and reopened our new location, has meant so much to us. We also have customers who travel from surrounding cities to dine with us, and many have encouraged us to bring Charm to their communities.
As we look toward the future, our vision is to continue growing while staying true to what made Charm special in the first place — authentic Thai flavors, genuine hospitality, beautiful Thai culture, and a personal connection with our guests.
We are now preparing for the next chapter of Charm Thai Cuisine, including expanding into Newnan. No matter how much we grow, I never want Charm to lose the feeling that started everything: welcoming people to our table, sharing the Thailand I love with them, and making them feel at home.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I believe the restaurant industry will continue to change in ways that make authenticity, experience, and personal connection even more important.
Customers today are not only looking for good food. They want to know the story behind the food, where it comes from, and what makes a restaurant different. I think restaurants that can offer a true experience — through food, atmosphere, culture, hospitality, and service — will continue to stand out.
Technology will also continue to play a larger role. Online ordering, delivery, reservations, social media, digital marketing, and new technology for restaurant operations will become even more important. At the same time, I believe people will continue to value the human side of dining. Technology can make things more convenient, but it cannot replace genuine hospitality and the feeling of being welcomed and cared for.
Another major challenge will continue to be rising food, labor, and operating costs. Restaurant owners will have to become more creative and efficient while still maintaining quality. For independent restaurants especially, building strong relationships with the local community will be extremely important.
I also believe people are becoming more adventurous with food and more interested in authentic international cuisine. That creates a wonderful opportunity for Thai restaurants. Thai food offers such a wide variety of flavors, ingredients, and regional traditions, and there is still so much of Thai cuisine and culture that many Americans have not experienced yet.
For Charm Thai Cuisine, I see the future as a balance between growth and staying true to who we are. As we expand, I want us to continue sharing authentic Thai food, Thai hospitality, art, and culture while maintaining the personal connection that our guests have come to know.
Restaurants will continue to evolve, but I believe one thing will never change: people will always want to gather around a table, enjoy good food, celebrate important moments, and feel connected to one another. That is what makes me excited about the future of this industry.
