Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyia Young.
Hi Kyia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The origins of All Saints Embroidery, Ltd. Co. go back well before I officially set up the business in May 2025.
Both my granny and grandmother were skilled at sewing and tailoring clothes, linens and all sorts of other things, so working with fabric has always been part of our family’s history. My mother passed on this tradition by teaching me to hand sew, and more than 14 years ago she also encouraged me to learn how to sew using a machine in Home Economics (what we called ‘FACS’ – Family and Consumer Science).
Back then I had no idea where that interest would end up taking me. It wasn’t until many years later that I decided I wanted to look into the other aspect of that creativity by means of embroidery. What started out as an effort to learn a new craft eventually developed into my second business and also became a way of me paying respect to the women in my family while at the same time creating something for myself.
I’ve been able to produce personalized items for a wide variety of occasions and milestones – ranging from individual custom orders and bachelorette gifts to wedding packages and live embroidery events. Through each of these experiences I have been able to develop my creative skills, gain a better understanding of the business, and realize just how personal embroidery can be. It’s special to make something custom for someone and to know that it might end up becoming part of a memory, a celebration, or an important event in their life.
I’m proud to be carrying on that tradition through All Saints Embroidery and am looking forward to seeing where this journey will lead me next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a new business is hard, and I quickly learned that embroidery can be an expensive hobby, and an even more expensive business.
One of the biggest challenges has been the financial investment. Between purchasing blanks, thread, stabilizers, supplies, equipment, software, and everything needed to fulfill bulk orders, the costs can add up quickly. In the beginning especially, you’re investing a lot into the business without always seeing that same level of return right away. There are also “dry” months when customers aren’t ordering as much as they do during the holidays or other busy seasons, so I’ve had to learn how to navigate those slower periods while still investing in and growing the business.
Then there are the challenges you can’t plan for. Sometimes your embroidery machine decides it has a mind of its own and jams your fabric in the middle of an order. Sometimes the software crashes at the worst possible moment, or the exact blank a customer purchases goes out of stock. I’ve learned very quickly that entrepreneurship requires a lot of problem-solving, patience, flexibility, and sometimes just figuring it out as you go.
As you know, we’re big fans of All Saints Embroidery, Ltd. Co. . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
All Saints Embroidery, Ltd. Co. is a custom embroidery and personalization business that is deeply rooted in creativity, family, and my Louisiana heritage. A lot of the branding pays homage to where I’m from, with a “Southern Belle” feel featuring pastel pinks, golds, and our signature fleur-de-lis, which is a nod to Louisiana, New Orleans, and, of course, the “Saints.”
I specialize in custom embroidery, HTV work, and themed live embroidery experiences for individuals, businesses, organizations, weddings, and special events. I also do my own digitizing and create digital embroidery designs that other creatives can purchase and use through my Etsy storefront.
What I’m most proud of is how personal the brand remains. I work full-time in government and politics, and I never wanted All Saints to feel like another job. It’s my creative outlet – something I genuinely enjoy doing – and I think that love for the craft shows in the personalized experience and products I create for my customers.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are from growing up in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina…..a time I reference often because I sometimes miss the person and the life I knew before then.
I remember my daddy teaching me how to ride my bike around the cul-de-sac in Oak Island in the Upper 9th Ward. I remember having a crawfish boil for my 7th birthday, swimming in our pool with friends and family, and having a piñata in the front yard. I remember mornings at my grandmother’s house before school, my daddy dropping me off before work and coming back to pick me up. And I remember my friends at St. Agnes, how close we all were, and even my first sleepover in second grade.
Looking back, it’s the simplicity of those moments that makes them so special. At the time, they were just everyday life. Now, they’re memories of home, family, community, and a version of childhood that I’ll always carry with me.
