Inspiring Conversations with Amber Brumfield of Yellowhite Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Brumfield.

Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My dream led to action. I worked six years in corporate while developing my blueprint. Reddit, YouTube, and TikTok were my mentors. I built my website and got my LLC, insurance, and camera gear ready. When the time was right, I quit my job and headed to Atlanta to work for myself. It’s a challenge, but I’m making a name. I apply my resources through crowdfunding and seek partnerships to expand clientele for my brand. I’m always open to collaboration!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Making the transition from a 9-5 to working for yourself is never easy. At first, I felt uncertain about what my day-to-day would look like. I wasn’t even sure what time I’d wake up to get started. However, I believe in divine timing and taking action. I prioritized joining Facebook groups for photographers in Atlanta. I shared my story and goals, and soon enough, connections started pouring in. When I worried about my morning routine, the universe stepped in. For almost a week, my notifications chimed at 10 am, and that’s when I embraced it and said, ‘Okay, I’ll start my work at 10 am.’ I share all this to say that the journey is never easy, but it gets better with time and with faith. If you are passionate about what you do, find the places that celebrate those things about you. I am learning to speak up and ask for what I want for my business. It can be kind of scary for me, but I do it scared and get it done.

Yellowhite Photography is about capturing BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ joy. A new photography venture born from my passion. I aim to celebrate and document genuine moments of happiness. What sets me apart? Immersion in communities or providing a safe haven. I’m building an archive of authentic human experiences and self-acceptance. I specialize in lifestyle, boudoir, and studio photography, as well as being a creative director. You can reserve your photo shoot session on my website and come to the studio on the west end of Atlanta, GA, where you will feel comfortable and have your photo taken by me. Here, we make art. Period.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a child, I was always very observant, quiet, and creative. In my teenage years, I considered myself an outsider, but I could connect with anyone, from the janitor to the classmate with famous relatives. I always had my camera in one hand and textbooks in the other. I had a love for high fashion and a penchant for dressing differently. Now, as an adult, I feel like I have grown into an enigma. Honestly, it was never my plan to be this way. But as an artist, I never want to judge a book by its cover because I’ve been judged by people who didn’t know me or underestimated me my whole life. I grow closer to people who are authentic, who have done the work and can look at themselves in the mirror and like what they see because that’s what I do. I take an interest in appreciating the arts, enjoying museums, reading, and listening to music, as well as exploring the works of writers like Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, and Audre Lorde to name a few.
