Inspiring Conversations with Tuesdee Williams of TUESDEE By Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tuesdee Williams.

Hi Tuesdee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been the kind of person who wants to know how something is made. If I could take it apart, study it, and recreate it in a way that felt more beautiful or more like me, I would. That curiosity developed into a lifelong love of DIY, design, and transforming simple ideas into something special.

I grew up between two Caribbean islands—Belmont in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, and Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines—surrounded by the color, rhythm, movement, and creativity of Caribbean culture. Carnival was never simply an event; it was part of the environment that shaped me. I migrated to America as a teenager and joined the Army at 18, but I never lost my connection to home. Creating became the bridge between where I came from and the woman I was becoming. It gave me a way to express myself, reconnect with my roots, and transform an idea into something people could see, wear, and feel.

That creative spirit eventually grew into Tuesdee By Design. What began with my love of making beautiful things has developed into a fashion house where Caribbean culture, bold design, and self-expression come together. My vision later expanded into TALLAWAH Swim, which has already been showcased at Atlanta Swim Week and Glow Miami and is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027. I am also preparing for a December 2026 Art Basel showcase, where I plan to introduce carnival artistry to a broader audience and present it for what it truly is—a powerful, imaginative, and extraordinary form of wearable art.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth, and one of my hardest lessons came with the launch of my first carnival costume under Tuesdee By Design here in Atlanta. There was a great deal of excitement surrounding the design, but the launch did not unfold as I had envisioned. It was disappointing and humbling, especially because I had to acknowledge that passion and talent were not enough to carry the vision. I learned that creativity may produce the idea, but discipline, preparation, communication, strong systems, and the right team are what bring it across the finish line.

Some of my greatest challenges have also been personal. For a long time, I gave other people, relationships, and situations the time and energy that my own growth and brand needed from me. When I finally began redirecting that attention toward myself and what I was building, some relationships changed and others ended. Losing those connections was painful, but it also showed me how much of myself I had been giving away.

I learned that accountability does not mean accepting responsibility for everything that went wrong. It means owning my part, changing the habits that were holding me back, and releasing the rest. Today, I am more protective of my time and energy and more intentional about my commitments, timelines, and partnerships. I realized that if I wanted to build something I could truly be proud of, I had to give the vision the focus and consistency it deserved.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TUESDEE By Design?
I am building Tuesdee By Design into a fashion house that gives me the freedom to create across different areas of fashion while maintaining one clear identity: bold, culturally inspired, and unapologetically expressive. It is the creative home for everything I design and will continue to grow through different brands, collections, and forms of wearable art.

What sets my work apart is the intention behind it. I do not view carnival costumes as simply feathers, rhinestones, or something beautiful to wear for a day. To me, they are wearable art—each piece carrying culture, creativity, craftsmanship, freedom, and a story. TALLAWAH Swim is the fashion house’s dedicated swimwear brand, bringing that same bold energy and self-expression to statement swimwear.

What I am most proud of is that I am building something larger than a single product or collection. Growing up in the Caribbean gives me a personal connection to the culture, and I want my work to honor it while introducing its beauty and creativity to audiences who may be experiencing it for the first time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would not describe my journey as luck. I believe opportunities can open doors, but they cannot do the work for you. Most of what I have accomplished began with a simple decision: I wanted to do something, so I committed to figuring out how.

I did not wait until I had all the answers or every detail was perfect. I researched, asked questions, practiced, made mistakes, and learned through experience. And would you believe I am still learning? Fashion is always evolving, and building a brand has required me to educate myself not only about design, but also about production, manufacturing, marketing, branding, and business.

My military background taught me discipline, accountability, and how to keep moving when things become difficult. I have not always gotten everything right, but when something truly matters to me, I know how to lock in and give it my full attention. Luck may place an opportunity in front of you, but preparation, courage, and consistent work determine whether you are ready to step into it.
