Jimya Oglesby on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Jimya Oglesby and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimya, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Who are you learning from right now?
Right now I’m learning a lot about myself, through alone time.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jimya Oglesby and I’m a freelance photographer and elementary teacher in Middle Georgia. My brand, Candidly Pictured by JSO Photography, strives to capture the candid moments for those in my community by offering the following services — singles (graduation, lifestyle, maternity, prom/homecoming) and family portraits. I think what makes my brand unique is that I only shoot using natural lighting and don’t use many poses in order to capture the true essence of the story behind the pictures.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my mom and my sisters have shaped my perception of myself. They are truly my “why” behind my drive and motivation. My sisters inspire me the most as it brings me joy to know they’re proud of me and that I’m setting the example/standard for how they navigate life.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of stepping out on my own and strictly on faith has been my biggest hindrance in life.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would say that making sure others are taken care of is what really matters to me. I enjoy making others happy and being of service.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was full of love and dedication. I hope my legacy is that I was kind and was always there whenever/wherever I was needed.
