Jordi Castells of Candler Park on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jordi Castells. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jordi, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Music! I currently play in two bands: Bad Liars—all original music, inspired by 90s alternative and punk rock, find us on all streaming services— and Unconscious Discipline—covers only, members are all parents at Inman Park Cooperative Preschool. I do vocals and rhythm guitar with Bad Liars, and Bass with UD.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Jordi. I’m a Lead Creative, Illustrator, Animator and Content Strategist. I’m currently putting these skills to work at my boutique agency Tonalli Media.

In my 15+ years of experience, I’ve specialized in translating complex technical concepts into compelling visual narratives through motion design and illustration. I have led cross-functional creative teams while maintaining consistent brand standards across global touchpoints, and I combine my strong storytelling expertise with technical understanding to communicate sophisticated software concepts to diverse audiences, from technical teams to C-suite executives.

My spare time is devoted to my family, playing music and performing live, collecting comic books and records, writing TV pilots and feature screenplays and trying to keep up with new videogames.

Over the years, I have led Hollywood-style creative teams producing impactful digital content for major enterprise clients including Tricentis (software testing), Pfizer (pharmaceuticals), L.A. Times, Coca Cola, Home Depot, and numerous B2B tech startups. My passion to use the animation medium to communicate ideas leads me to constant growth and learning, and my bicultural and bilingual upbringing (English and Spanish) informs my drive to communicate.

I live in Atlanta, Ga with my wife, two sons and my pup Sid Vicious.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I will always be grateful to my aunt Laura who recognized my potential as a child and has always been a champion and a supporter of my career, and eventually a creative collaborator.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yeah, right now! My business has been really slow and the projects that excite me have been put on indefinite hold. I don’t have a feel-good story about how I overcame the adversity, I’m going through it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Family is the most important thing. And by this I don’t mean any sort of Conservative “nuclear family” BS. A family can take any shape or form. But when we start destroying the fabric that keeps us together in the name of “growth” or “progress”, we are fighting against hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, of sticking together to overcome, of multigenerational households, of having a group of people you can always trust and fall back to.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Wasting time.
