Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Cashmere Gaston of Bay Area

Cashmere Gaston shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Cashmere, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I am chasing financial freedom, if I stopped chasing it then none of my goals will be achieved or accomplished.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Cashmere Gaston and I’m the CEO and founder of Her Financial Leadership.

Her financial leadership is exactly what it sounds like it’s a women empowerment company I created because I felt like it wasn’t enough women ceos ..

My company is a women empowerment company that focuses on helping women because their on boss… I offer financial advice on how to start up businesses , I provide graphic design services , I build websites, and I also help people file taxes and show them the necessary steps to purchase a home .

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I use to believe that since my family didn’t come from money I was never going to be rich .. I really thought it was no possible other way to become rich if I wasn’t born with a silver spoon . I honestly thought I would be on welfare and low income housing for the rest of my life . Where I grew up that’s all a lot of us care about… it’s like if you get section voucher 8 you’ve won and your set for life … a lot of us we’re not taught about generational wealth .

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s never a time I almost gave up even after I hit rock bottom a lot of things that were sent to break me most people would have been broke down but me I knew I couldn’t ! It was nights I couldn’t sleep trying to figure out what’s next where do I go from here but It was my kids man you know im a single mom and my sons they didn’t ask to be here so its solely my responsibility to make sure they don’t face any of the challenges I did growing up so giving up was not a option.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say taking care of my kids and giving them a life I didn’t have growing up . They know those boys mean so much to me and I would do any and everything to make sure they never have to struggle .

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
What I think people will most misunderstand about me is that I never did any of this to try to be better than anyone . I really just want to help people especially women I always felt like women always are told their voice isn’t strong enough and that we need to stick to girly careers and that having a business is a man’s job and I’m just here to prove people wrong just because your a women doesn’t mean you can’t be a ceo of your own company the sky is the limit as long as you work hard and learn to sacrifice you can do whatever you put your mind to .
