Dakota Whatley shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Dakota , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I’d have to say integrity. For me, being honest and having strong values matters the most. Intelligence and energy are important, but without integrity, they do not mean much. I believe it is something that should carry through in all aspects of life, both personal and business.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Dakota Whatley, and I am an entrepreneur and community leader. I run Whatley Technology Services, a community rooted tech company with a big mission: helping local businesses grow and succeed in today’s digital world. What makes us unique is the way we mix solid technical expertise with a friendly, people first approach. Our goal is to make technology work for you, not against you. Outside of the business, I stay involved in several organizations that allow me to give back and stay connected with the community. For me, it is not just about technology, it is about building relationships and making a positive difference.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents definitely taught me the most about work. They showed me early on that if I wanted something in life, I had to put in the effort and work hard for it. That mindset has stuck with me and shaped how I approach everything I do.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
One thing I’ve changed my mind about after failing is realizing that failing is actually okay. The important part is trying in the first place. When you fail, you learn what went wrong, make adjustments, and come back stronger. You will never really know what you are capable of if you never take the chance to go after your goals.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I mostly rely on my own ideas because I like to think for myself. At the same time, life has a way of putting you in situations that challenge your thinking and shape how you see the world. Those experiences help me decide what I hold on to as true.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I’m doing what I was born to do. I really enjoy the work I do, especially because I love helping people. Through my business and the organizations I’m involved with, I get the chance to make a difference and that feels good to me.
