Debi Blair shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Debi, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal work day starts at 7am when coffee is made and my cat Piper is fed!
At 55 years old, I am learning the importance of strength training and have incorporated an amazing program called DDPY. It is a combination of yoga and dynamic resistance That along with weights helps me keep up with my busy schedule at the salon.
My work days are Thursday thru Sunday, when I am not working I am helping my kid finish up their senior year of high school and get ready to start college!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have officially been doing hair for 30 years!! 27 of them have been right here in Atlanta. The last 14 years have found me in beautiful Candler Park behind the chair at Mariemarie Salon. I am proud to say that we carry Davines products.
Davines brand is known for its commitment to sustainability, which it calls “Sustainable Beauty,” integrating the concept of harmony between beauty, nature, and well-being into its innovative, high-quality products and ethical practices.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I remember my dad always telling me to find a job that I love. I know it sounds cliche but after 30 years I still love this industry.
I am constantly being taught by my fellow stylists, the beauty of this job is there is always something to learn and whether it is a co worker or an Instagram page I am following, I continue to learn.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The younger me always had a fear of speaking my mind. I worried what others thought and stayed neutral.
Now as I am getting ready to turn 56, I find liberation in my age and finally allow myself to have a voice in so many ways!
I love where I am in my life both personally and professionally and it took a lot of inner strength to get me there.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes!
What you see is what you get.
With everyone that I come in contact with I try to provide a sense of calm and peace. There is so much uncertainty in our world and many people feel overwhelmed right now so when a client sits in my chair, I want them to enjoy their time.
Even in my personal life, I surround myself with peace and do not tolerate drama or negativity.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am home with my partner and cat Piper!
Also spending time with my one and only kid, they are getting ready for college so I cherish the time we have.
