Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Makatelyn Shepherd of Atlanta

Makatelyn Shepherd shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Makatelyn, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Recently I have been blessed to enjoy having slow mornings! Not slow in the since of movement, but slow as in taking each day in as soon as I wake up. I do not have to rush most mornings. I am allowed to wake up, stretch, smile, step outside, breathe and start my mornings in a way which serves God and myself. It’s peace, its slow, but it serves to the serenity I need to start each new day!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Makatelyn Shepherd and my brand + lifestyle is confidence. I am rooted into making sure I walk a life everyday which is rooted in the confidence of God and the confidence he has placed within me ! My life today looks like repurposing and repositioning myself to be all that God has called me to be confidently!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I began to feel powerful when I realized my worth was not rooted in what I do but rather who I am. That is power. I do not have to show up being someone other than who God made me to be. I am strong because he is strong. I am confident because he placed that confidence within me! Power is not always in strength sometimes power is knowing when not to speak, knowing when to set a boundary or say no. Power is just being. Being true to yourself and ALWAYS staying true to God!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think giving up can be a daily thought with various situations. Some days I dont want to floss, but if i do not floss I run the risk of gum disease. So that one example lets me know I could give up, but whats on the other side of giving up? More disparity? So although I have probably wanted to give up, I have not because I want to see the goodness of the Lord.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Why wouldn’t it be. It takes too much time to be one person publicly and another privately. I always like to say I am me in real life which means everywhere I go up, the heart I have does not change. That is the confidence talk I car try daily.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am home or just being myself. Nature brings me a lot of peace also. There are so many hidden gems found in nature.
