Life & Work with Candice Rose-Medley of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Rose-Medley.

Hi Candice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
RoseTreatment Room started in my living room.

Before any of this, I worked alongside my sister ReeDawn, a master cosmetologist. I was her assistant, then her employee. She taught me how to do lashes, and watching her work was what pushed me to go to skin school. We had real plans, the kind where you’re building something together on purpose. We were going to become partners.

I’d just moved when COVID hit, and instead of waiting for the world to open back up, I turned my entire living room into a skincare studio. That’s where RoseTreatment Room actually began, one to three clients a week, learning the business as I went. It felt aligned the way the puzzle pieces fit so easily.

My sister passed later that year, in 2020. I tried to keep her storefront running in her honor, but two months in, I had to close it. That closing is what pushed me to find a studio of my own, and from there, RTR started to grow into something that was fully mine while still carrying her with it.

In 2022, I got certified in electrolysis, over 400 hours of training, and it changed everything. My schedule filled up almost immediately. Today I’m booked two to three weeks out, seeing one client at a time by design. No double-booking, no rushing you through and building genuine relationships as I go.

RoseTreatment Room has grown into a full practice now: advanced skincare, electrolysis, lash services, and a training program I’m building for other estheticians & people who want to become electrologists. People who want to actually understand this work instead of rushing through a certification or training themselves. Boutique beauty with a backbone. I’m so proud of what I’ve built.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, in the beginning, yes, and that told me something. Clients started finding me before I even understood how. I was growing, I took a coaching class that helped me tremendously, and even attending the electrolysis class was in alignment. I was getting signs from my sister that all was well and I was right where I needed to be.

It hasn’t stayed effortless. Lately I’m feeling what a lot of small businesses are feeling with the economy shifting, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to adapt and keep up. There have been small hiccups too, noisy studio suites, that kind of thing, nothing that’s ever touched the actual client experience. I’ve never had an issue with a client, not once.

I would say, I’m pretty amazed, writing this out, that RoseTreatment Room has been the one constant and solid thing in my life since 2020. Everything else has shifted around it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Most people offering hair removal are doing laser, and most people doing spa/skincare work aren’t also certified in a medical-adjacent modality like electrolysis. I hold both: licensed esthetician and certified electrologist. That’s not common, and it means I can offer a lot more depth to my electrolysis treatments. It has also given me a more in depth view of what’s happening beneath the skin surface which gives me so much more knowledge.

Within electrolysis specifically, curly hair is where I see the biggest gap. I see it constantly from clients, they’ve been to other providers for years and years who just didn’t know how to work with their hair texture. I do, and I’m fast and efficient about it. On the skincare side, I don’t chase trends. Everything I offer is researched and chosen for the client in front of me, not because everyone else is doing it..

The one-client-at-a-time model is also a real differentiator. No double-booking, no overlapping appointments, no split attention. And because I built this business myself, from a living room to a studio, I bring an actual understanding of what clients go through when they can’t find someone who takes their skin, or their hair loss, or their specific situation seriously.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That everyone is truly an individual, and there are more good people in this world than bad. Working with this many different people, this many different personalities, has given me a real appreciation and understanding of people that I didn’t have before.

I pour into my clients, especially during facials. There’s something that happens when you give someone the specific thing they need for themselves, whether that’s an hour to just relax, hair they’ve had since before their teenage years finally gone, hair removal that lets someone feel like who they actually are, or skin clear of what was making them feel less than their best self. That gives me so much gratitude.

That’s also the lesson behind the training program. I’ve learned I don’t just want to help the clients in front of me, I want to share what I know so other estheticians and electrologists can go help more people who need it. That’s the whole reason it exists.
