Today we’d like to introduce you to Chidinma Kanu
Hi Chidinma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins in Lagos, Nigeria, where I was born and raised. Growing up there taught me resilience, creativity, and the importance of always finding a way forward. In 2016, I moved to the United States, ready to embrace new opportunities and chase my dreams.
While studying Criminal Justice at Georgia State University, I was searching for something I could call my own—a side hustle that sparked joy and purpose. I started taking photos at church, just capturing moments out of love for it. Before long, I realized I had a real eye and passion for photography. That hobby quickly grew into a business.
I originally started out as *NaomiOnTheCam*, but as I discovered more of my creative talents, I knew it was time for something bigger—something that captured all of who I am. That’s how *CreativeHouseOfChee* was born. Today, I’m not just a photographer—I’m also a makeup artist and content creator. I create content for my personal brand as an influencer and work with business owners and weddings to bring their visions to life.
It’s been a journey of stepping into my confidence, especially on the content side. I’ve always loved beauty and fashion, but for a while, I was too shy to put myself out there. In 2022, I finally said, “No more,” and began showing up authentically online. Since then, I’ve collaborated with brands I love, and I’m so excited for everything that’s still to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every step has built my strength and shaped my story. One of the biggest challenges was balancing everything—working full time, going to school, and trying to build a brand from scratch. On top of that, financial constraints made it even tougher. I didn’t have my own camera in the beginning, so I used to borrow cameras just to do jobs. I was determined, though, and eventually, I saved enough to buy my first Nikon D5600. That moment felt like a turning point—it was proof that hard work pays off.
Breaking into the creative space is also tough because it’s such a competitive industry. You’re constantly trying to pitch yourself when it feels like *everyone* is doing the same thing. But I’ve learned that there’s no such thing as an oversaturated market. There’s a space and a base for everyone. What sets you apart is *you*—your voice, your vision, and the way you connect with people.
Through it all, God has made a way. He’s surrounded me with amazing family and friends who have supported me, booked me, and even invested in my business. Their belief in me helped keep me going during the moments I doubted myself.
It’s been a journey filled with lessons, late nights, and a lot of faith—but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Every obstacle has pushed me to grow, and I’m just getting started.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a multifaceted creative—photographer, makeup artist, and content creator. Under my brand *CreativeHouseOfChee*, I specialize in capturing moments and telling stories through visuals, whether it’s through my lens, makeup brush, or curated content. I work with both individuals and businesses, offering photography for weddings, portraits, and branded content, as well as content creation for entrepreneurs who want to elevate their online presence. I also create for my personal brand as a beauty and lifestyle influencer, collaborating with brands that align with my style and message.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come—turning what started as a borrowed camera and a side hustle into something real and thriving. I’m proud of the impact I’ve made, especially within my community, and the confidence I’ve gained in my voice as a creative and businesswoman.
What sets me apart is my intentionality and the value I bring to each client. As much as I love to make a profit, I refuse to take part in the new norm of overpriced services with poor quality. I prioritize quality, transparency, and care. My clients can truly testify to the personal touch I bring—whether it’s through thoughtful consultations, honest recommendations, or taking the time to ensure appointments are never rushed. I make it a priority that every client feels seen, heard, and satisfied.
At the heart of everything I do is purpose. I don’t just create to follow trends—I create to connect, to uplift, and to tell meaningful stories. And being deeply rooted in faith reminds me that this journey is bigger than just business—it’s about leaving a legacy and encouraging others to walk in their own calling boldly.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d love to leave with readers, it’s this: don’t be afraid to start small. Whether you’re chasing a dream, starting a business, or stepping into a new version of yourself, every big vision starts with one small, brave step. I started with borrowed equipment and a quiet voice, and now I’m walking confidently in my purpose—and still growing.
Also, stay true to yourself. In a world full of trends and pressure to conform, your uniqueness is your power. There is room for you, your voice, and your vision. And never underestimate the power of consistency, faith, and community.
Above all, have faith in God—He is the one who gives us the power to create wealth. Every open door, every idea, every opportunity is a blessing, and when you walk with Him, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported my journey so far—and I’m excited for all that’s to come. Do not forget to book me for your photography, makeup and content creation needs.
