Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector.
Hi Hector, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From My Inspiration to the Dance Floor
My real name is Hector Santana, but most people know me as Marc Flight. Music has always fascinated me—not just for the sound itself, but for the emotions it can create and the way it can bring people together.
Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, I was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, which has played a major role in shaping who I am and the music I gravitate toward. When I was 16, I came across the Tomorrowland 2012 Aftermovie on YouTube. Something about the energy, the crowds, and the way music could move thousands of people at once immediately caught my attention. Not long after watching it, I knew I wanted to pursue music and see how far I could take it.
At 17, I asked for my first DJ controller as a birthday gift. Luckily, I got it—and from that moment, everything started to fall into place.
I began DJing wherever I could: at friends’ houses, small parties, gatherings, and anywhere people were willing to let me play. I would tell everyone about what I was doing, constantly looking for the next opportunity to get behind the decks. What started as something I simply loved doing gradually began gaining momentum.
Fast-forward nearly a decade, and DJing has become much more than a hobby. It has become a major part of who I am.
For me, there is a certain peace that comes with being behind the decks, but there is also an undeniable excitement. I get to create an experience in real time and connect with people without necessarily saying a word. The most rewarding part is knowing that, even for a few hours, I can give someone a reason to forget about everything else and simply enjoy the moment.
At the end of the night, that’s what it’s really about for me: creating moments, bringing people together, and making life feel a little better through music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t. I’ve had moments where I’ve stopped doing what I like DJing for a while to kind of focus on my 9 to 5 in my career, as I do have a bachelor’s in marketing from Kennesaw State University, and I kind of focus on that just because I want to be able to fuel what at the time was the hobby (DJing).
There would be times when I would have to reach out to certain venues or promoters to give me a chance because I was the new kid on the block and people did not really know who I was. I’ve been lucky that I’ve had people take the chance on me and help me grow my career.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a DJ based out of Atlanta. I have been doing it for over 10 years and have had the opportunity to open and be direct support for some amazing artists. I do have a standard 9-5 at a software company and a marketing degree that I use to fuel this project and one day become my full career.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think that being constant, always trying to improve and being open to criticism are important factors that have led me to where I am today and the success that I have achieved. One other thing that I really take into account, and I try to really be a good person and communicate well with the people that I work with.
