Life & Work with Shannon Shinholster of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Shinholster.

Hi Shannon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At first learn how to crochet for my grandmother, when I was just a young girl, I used my first sewing machine and home class at the age of 13.And that’s where I learned my true passion of sewing. Ive always upcycled clothing that I had in my closet. I loved thrifting and finding unique pieces that starts conversations as I was a very reserved person growing up. While growing up, I put my passion on the back burner In order to create stability in a corporate setting. then becoming a mom that also geared my life toward a more structured way of living and I lost my creative niche for a while.\n In 2012A friend of mine brought me a sewing machine Project Runway edition, to be exact. that reignited my passion for sewing. I started to create again slowly over the years. I was laid off during covid , and that’s when I decided to become my own boss and then stated slay was born. In 2019, I turned my passion into a profit. everything that I have manifested has come to fruition. I have created a client base with styling and tailoring , i’ve created garments from scratch, became a documented costume designer for film and also debuted my own collection my first fashion show last year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, it has been a smooth road with the twists and turns of the instability of corporate America, it was hard at times sourcing fabric, I had to become creative and find different ways to get what I needed, so I would volunteer at scrap Atlanta. For hours, in order to get free fabric at the end of my shift to create some of my garments, also, the late hours in the evening sacrificing sleep. So that I can balance working in corporate America being a full-time mom, an entrepreneur, took its toll on me at times but I knew there was a bigger picture in store for me

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have worked in the assisted living field since 2007.I started off as a P.R.N concierge and worked my way up to a senior living consultant to date. I specialize in senior living sales and marketing. I am known for my infectious personality and my passion for seniors. I am most proud of my son and the man he is becoming. He is my greatest creation. What sets me apart from others is I am who I am whether I’m in corporate America or living my everyday life. I always say I make a living off of just being myself. I’m a force. I thrive off of the energy of others and I also give so much energy to others. many are drawn to me because I am a genuine person. I have the ability to make everyone around me feel seen, heard, safe to open up and live in their truths.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very reserved. I was very observant, and I would speak when spoken to\n My sister was my best friend and I was such a mama’s girlpersonality wise I was very sarcastic. Funny, in my own right and extremely loving\n I never like the attention to be on me. I was a go-getter from the age of 12. I never liked asking for anything or being told no. I would rather go out and get it myself. I love to make my own money, dance, sew, swim, draw, travel, spend time with my family.
