Meet Evan Coles of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Coles.

Hi Evan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My musical journey began with music running through my blood. Growing up in Harlem, NY, I was surrounded by a family deeply rooted in music. My father was a working musician who traveled the world with Wilson Pickett and had the opportunity to play alongside legends like James Brown and Little Richard. My mom’s father was also a singer who recorded a few records in his time. Music was always more than just a passion—it was a part of who I am.

Inspired by my family and the artists who shaped me, I began developing my own voice as a singer and songwriter. Over the years, I’ve continued to grow as an artist, performing, writing, and finding my own sound. I’ve had the opportunity to write for artists such as Chen Linong and Lu Han, and I’ve also done work that was featured in projects for Disney and Nickelodeon.

Today, I’m continuing to build my career as an independent artist and songwriter. My new EP “Twin Flame”, is one of the first steps in releasing more music and giving people the opportunity to get to know more about who I am today as an artist. I’m excited to keep sharing more of my story, my music, and my world with people, because honestly, I feel like this is just the beginning!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been an easy road. There have definitely been times when I’ve questioned myself and wondered if what I was creating was good enough, or if I could be doing more to make it better. I think that’s one of the hardest parts of being an artist, you’re constantly evolving and learning, and sometimes you have to be your own biggest critic.

But I’ve also learned to appreciate that part of the journey. The challenges, the setbacks, and even the moments of doubt have all helped me grow, not just as an artist, but as a person. I wouldn’t change that, because I believe those experiences are part of what’s shaping me into the artist I’m meant to be. At the end of the day, I gladly take the obstacles that come with this path, because there’s honestly nothing else in this world I’d rather do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer and songwriter, and at the heart of what I do is storytelling. I love creating music that makes people feel something, whether that’s making them want to dance, bringing back a memory, or helping them connect to something they’re going through.

As a songwriter, I’ve had the opportunity to write for artists like Chen Linong and Lu Han, and I’ve had my work featured in projects for Disney and Nickelodeon. As an artist, I’m focused on finding my own voice and creating music that feels honest to who I am.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve continued to pursue this dream through all of the ups and downs. I think what sets me apart is that I care deeply about the feeling and the story behind a song. I’m not just trying to make music that sounds good, I want people to feel like they’ve stepped into a moment, a story, or a part of my world when they hear it.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to working with other creatives, whether that’s songwriting, producing, live shows or just coming together and creating something special. I really enjoy connecting with people who love music and are excited about creating.

If my music speaks to you, I’d love for you to follow along, listen, share it with someone you think might connect with it, and come along for the ride. I’m grateful for anyone who wants to be a part of my journey.
